I’ve given up on naming characters over “meaning” some of the best characters I’ve written are over vibes. Use throwbacks, use inside jokes, don’t just google “names meaning queen” like it’s the biggest piece of foreshadowing you have. You can foreshadow better than that. 

I named my true neutral ginger Severine because that was the name of a Bond girl and she’s kick ass and low key scary. 

My cake obsessed ray of sunshine got named Tamsin because she made me think of tim tams, ironically Tamsin means twin and she’s an adopted “triplet” with her twin cousins. 

My Cressida is a platinum blonde not a golden one. She likes lavender tea and not having feelings. 

Stress over names that fit the character, don’t think too hard about what they mean.

Sometimes I write cute mushy outtakes that will never make it into the story. It’s pretty much writing fanfic about my own characters.

The lead in the comic I’m writing is an asshole. 

She’s saving the world. She’s doing it for the greater good. She’s doing some really terrible things to people she loves. She’s still a hero.

The End

Saturday saw me write this definitive text…and I got to say I am trepeditiously pleased. A little over a year in the abstract making and I have a trilogy on my hands! Final word count was 300,074, with page # at 619 enough to see each book comfortably with 200+ pages – of course that’s just cursory, I still have the whittling and honing of editing to do and that always gives or takes!
