Character Introduction #1 - Arden

(same as my earlier blog, but I’m trying to figure Tumblr out so here it is again)

I got this Idea from @rhiannewrites , who used a modified version of the one @jennamoreci created. My story that I’m working on is in the roughest of first drafts, so I’m sure my protagonist, Arden, will evolve right along with my story.

Name: Arden Lilith Duval

Age: Presently, she is 30. We will, however, be following her throughout her mid to late teens, and also all of her 20′s through flashbacks.

Appearance: In her teens, she keeps an “adorable awkward” appearance; she’s on the lower end of average in height and still carries some of her “baby weight”. She has a full face, fair skin and wears wire-framed glasses. Her hair is a lighter golden brown with a grown out bang, which Arden conveniently uses as a shield sometimes, as most moody teenagers do. Arden’s preferred attire is baggy jeans and sweaters and “Jesus Sandals”.

As Arden hits her 20′s, She appreciates her shape more and starts wearing tighter jeans and frilly, embellished camisole tops. She has big layered hair with streakier highlights. She also chooses to do more with her makeup.

Present day she is more “mature” and “classic” in her look. Her hair is natural again and is kept in a loose sensible braid most of the time. Since becoming a mother, she opts for comfort and practicability in her look and achieves it effortlessly.

Physical Insecurities: As a teen, she was self-conscious about being “fluffy” and having boring looks, In her 20′s she overcompensates. And in the present day, she’s finally comfortable and writes often on her blog the importance of self-acceptance and appreciation for yourself.

Where is she from: The lakeshore town of St. Joseph, Michigan.

Dating Experiences: We have a flashback where she is 15 and in her first “real” relationship with Lee, the bench warmer. Their relationship begins to be strained as Lee becomes more of a “meat-headed jock” and gets grabby with not only Arden but other girls as she is slowly and reluctantly starting to figure out. She is introduced to an upper-classmen who turned things around (and sideways and upside down, if you will) for her.

We also Flashback to her early 20′s, where she’s engaged to overbearing and insensitive Ben. Whom she met while at a club her older sister, Bryn, snuck her into. After a tumultuous two years with Ben, she is broken and alone and takes a lot of time to self-repair and find it near impossible to trust and love again… much to the destruction of her next “relationship”

After a couple of years and plenty of soul searching, she meets the one she will settle down and have a family with; her dental hygienist, Meridith Sinclair.

Introvert or Extrovert: She is mostly an introvert, as in she truly appreciates her alone time. On a day to day and out and about basis, though, she does a good job of being outgoing and assertive. Which we learn took her some time to get to that point.

Follows heart or head: Mostly her head as she gets older. She is still a slight skeptic and chooses to not put so much stock into her heart.

Hobbies: Teens- Listening to music, walking around town and reading

20′s- Fashion and beauty, Social Media, and reluctantly, trying to keep Ben happy

Present- Playing with daughter, Willa. Family trips and picnics, working on blog (and building an online empire!!!)

Strengths: Arden is, for the most part, strong willed. She is a realist when it comes to meeting new people, and she can pick up on first impressions. She comes off hardened, but this is also a weakness because she internalizes too much and it deteriorates her well being. One of her later found strengths is learning to accept the past as past.

Weaknesses: Plays the “I can handle it” card too often, especially in the early years. She doesn’t allow herself to heal like she should. It takes her a really long time to open her heart up.

Skills: She has found her voice in being active in social media and writes her own lifestyle and wellness blog

Occupation: Makeup artist at department store

Family: She was raised by her mother, Elle, a free spirit with a bit of a strict side. Bryn, who is her older sister by three years. Bryn is the “rebellious” one and causes a lot of Elle’s trust issues with her children. Meridith Sinclare,the woman Arden goes on to marry after originally meeting while having her routine teeth cleaning at the dentist office. And through IVF with an anonymous donor, they share their daughter, Willa Elenore.

Friends: High school best friend is Heather Hazel. There is also Lucy Alcott, who later goes on to betray Arden. Arden has maintained a very off and on friendship with Wesley Lange, regardless of sometimes crippling circumstances. Overall Arden mostly keeps to herself and her family.
