Skip! I have no specific question for WIP Wednesday, I just want you to discuss what makes you happy about the writing process if that’s okay! ♥️♥️
LUZ OMG THANK YOU!!! it is truly such a pleasure when i get asks from you i always love them with my whole heart <3 and plus you are so supportive and kind, and always make my day, so thank you so much lovely!!
AND CAN I JUST SAY HOW MUCH I ADORE THIS QUESTION BC YA KNOW HAPPINESS AWE
Something I feel that makes me so ungodly happy about the writing process is seeing these lil characters you had in your mind become real people to you, like their almost your children and GOD IT MAKES ME EMOTIONAL.
I remember first writing Hazel Parker, this scared, shy and quiet little girl who entered the war with a sniper in her grasp and let her emotions boil over on too many occasions. And now, where I am now with her, she’s more passionately using her voice, yet she’s remaining humble, and she realizes what she’s done, but keeps her emotions in check because she reminds herself it’s war and things like this happen. Just seeing a character arc develop and watch your character grow and change literally makes me so so happy. I can’t even describe it.
For many people, characters are like our children, these little people we came up with in our mind and decided to write a story about - we know everything about them, their motives, inspiration, what they love, all of it. I can’t even describe how much of a fun experience to create that, truly. Because then I put pieces of my self into the character and I feel like I can relate even more to the character in front of me. And I’ve always said this, but characters and their flaws are some of the most important things of the story - knowing a character isn’t perfect, showing their flaws and then continuing on with how they co-exist with those flaws, try to improve, learning to accept it. I just love getting into all of it, especially character flaws, I could go on about the importance of that and having people then being able to relate easier to your characters. It’s just it’s so important for humans to know they are like others and if you can create that connection through storytelling, it truly is such a beautiful thing.
i can’t describe my love for this beautiful question, but that is what truly makes me so so ungodly happy. just knowing my character and making them H U M A N. thank you luz as always <3
MORE REASONS TO DONATE TO THE NO BOYS DORM KICKSTARTER
I hope you're not getting TOO sick of us canvassing erry day for the No Boys Dorm Kickstarter.
We've only got a few days left, and if we don't reach the Kickstart goal, the series might not get made at all. So if you're not too annoyed by my constant yammering about this awesome anime-inspired webseries, can I bend your ear just a BIT longer?
Hey, let's start with the girl who played Hermione:
REASON 1 : Jennah Foster-Catlack as Alba Armada
Definitely one of the most interesting characters in the series. Tough, reticient, and terse, Alba masks a storm of insecurity about her future.
She's exceptionally talented, the product of hours and hours of practising guitar in the orphanage she and Lara grew up in, but now she has no clue how to both pursue her art AND be happy.
But then she becomes enemies with Cyrus, the dark-eyed trickster who works for the Shadow Order, and begins to wonder why she's so intrigued by him...
REASON 2: Tavia Pereira as Lara No
It's unfair, really. Lara wanted to Go Good and leaving Toronto was part of that.
Her time as a bad girl in the orphanage had hit a dead end, so she saved and scrimped, and off she packed herself to a small college in Northern Ontario. Things were gonna change... And then she loses everything in a fire.
Now she's at the Academy, in the Boys Dorm, and she's determined to make things work, for herself and her friends. She's fierce and friendly, and her natural desire to be the hero nabs both friends and enemies...
REASON 3: Kimberley Wells as Lily Loss
Enemies like Lily Loss.
Lily is the dark mirror of Lara, for reasons that I can't reveal TOO much, because then we get into spoiler territory.
Like Lara, Lily comes from poverty, and like Lara, she's enormously skilled in the criminal arts. But unlike Lara, she's ruthless, sadistic, and enjoys using her abilities to get what she wants...
As a member of the Shadow Order, she works for the Elite students like Teela Tether, but she has her own agenda, and a fascination with Lara...
REASON 4: Kyla Dewey as Teela Tether
Privilege gone wrong. Obsessed with status, Teela thinks she's on top of the heap.
She's one of the richest, most beautiful girls attending the Academy, and she wields power as the President Of The Academy Clubs Council. The resident advisors and other school council staff bow to her. She's at the top of her game and no one can stop her.
... So when some nobody shows up out of nowhere and robs her of her chance to attend the Academy Ball with the most eligible young man in the school, she. Starts. To. Lose. It.
And she'll take this Lara No out any way she can if she has to.
REASON 5: Andrew Aquino as Takashi Tesumi
Takashi is a mystery. Even to his peers, he's a wall: handsome, smart, wealthy but rarely talks about himself or his motivations.
But he seems to have taken an interest in Lara, and wants to help her stay in Boys Dorm until she's back on her feet. Lara wants to find out why, even as she might be maybe kinda starting to feel something for him...
REASON 6: Alliston Davis as Jason Jettison
Dramatic, theatrical, the most stylish kid in the Academy: Jason Jettison is quick on his feet and quick-witted... until he tries to talk to his crush, Maron Marcus, and he falls completely apart.
Lara, Moe, and Alba want to help Jason get up the confidence to ask Maron to the Academy Ball before someone else does...
REASON 7: Joseph Bradley as Isaac
If you think Isaac's a hyper-intelligent, overly controlling human computer, you'd be right. But he's also much more than he seems, which Lara and the gang are about to find out...
REASON 8: Nick Newcastle as Dresden
Once upon a time, a girl and a boy grew up in the same orphanage and fell in love. Times were tough, and the girl and the boy realized they were very good at certain criminal activities: picking locks, hustling marks, picking pockets, jimmying windows, jumping walls, slipping away unnoticed...
The boy wanted to go career, and made contacts throughout the city's underworld. The girl wanted to go good, and she realized she had to leave the boy.
But the boy is still in love with her, and he's a little crazy and a little evil. And when the girl comes back to town, with some rich boy masquerading as her beau, he knows he's going to do something about it...
Help us made this web series! We have until April 6th to reach out goal on our Kickstarter!
