The Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc has 95% Chardonnay. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🥂 #Chardonnay just like Pinot Noir likes to be in a place that’s cooler, such as southern #Napa and Russian River. 🥂In 1965 hardly anyone was doing Chardonnay or Pinot Noir… que tal! We posed a series of questions to winemaker Jose Lovaglio on #ChardDay - May 24. In honor of what's become a global online tasting event, Jose gets personal about the popular variety. (We were tasting Bodini Chardonnay while chatting, naturally.) Q - If Chardonnay were a celebrity, who would it be? A - Jose Lovaglio - It would be Megan Fox (laughing). Q - For which occasion do you usually open a bottle of Chardonnay? A - Year round! But more so during summer, next to the pool, with friends! Q- What are the main differences between Chardonnay and Torrontés ? We know you make both... A- These are very different varieties! Torrontés is local, Chardonnay is global...Torrontés has strong ties with Muscat for aromas. Q- What are your most creative Chardonnay descriptors? A- For the traditional ones...White fruit characters (apple, peach, pears). For the non-traditional: reminds me of picnics just after a rainy day. Q- To oak or not to oak? That is the question. (Now we're laughing.) A- It depends...Let the wine speak for itself. Q- What kind of cheeses pair well with Chardonnay - in your experience? A- If the wine has undergone ML it will pair well with heavier types. Mmm, now we're hungry, too.

It's Chardonnay Day! Celebrate in style

Thursday, May 24 is Chardonnay Day. You might ask, what does that mean? Let's just say it's a great excuse to drink a glass (or more) of wine. If you want to feel more involved, you can join the global celebration (it's free) or check Chardonnay Day meetups around you.

And in case you don't have a bottle of Chardonnay handy to celebrate, here are 2 different but equally delicious Chardonnays to celebrate in style.

La Crema is one of the most consistent affordable California Chardonnays. You can find it at Safeway ($15.99) and in most liquor stores. It's a typical California Chardonnay - buttery and rich, with warm aromas, and full body.

Paraiso is a great Chardonnay in a non California style. Available at BevMo ($16.99). It's more crisp and tart, and a little thiner than the La Crema. Although the fruity aromas are delicious, it's more on the mineral side.
