Narrative and Self

Very insightful in terms of character analysis and narrative. Brought into account the things I would have never thought about. How the motives and actions of the characters themselves defines who they are more in comparison to what the narrative says. In this article I learned about flat and round characters and how they play a part in all stories and narratives. In addition, I knew that people were categorized in types but never thought about it in a way where viewers and readers will always overread and underread them. Also I found the section about the masterplot and how the character acts a certain way from beginning to end in order to achieve their final goal, quite interesting.

Show and Tell- Character

He is a 20 year old commuter from Richmondhill and is waiting in the library building for his class to start. In order to cure his boredom, he knowingly, in advance, brought his iPad mini in order to entertain himself. He often listened to top 40 pop music while surfing the net. Today, he decided to look into the golden globe results and pictures from that day. He has an hour to spare before his the start of his noon class. He got himself comfortable in the huge square-shaped couch while facing the large windowed wall. He dresses so he doesn’t stand out. He owns a black Hershel backpack and a Canada Goose jacket. He wears Nike kicks and beige colored pants along with a grey hoodie with red and white stripes.

He is of Asian decent. He is of average build and not very tall. He seems like a shy guy. He probably has a crush on somebody from the same class in a group project but doesn’t exactly know how to confess or express his feelings. He gets excited when his crush talks in the group convo for the class project, but in real life, he gets very nervous so he could only respond to her in one word answers. He is an organized person and prefers to keep things under control. He doesn’t like unexpected events or plans that take him by surprise.

This is a short reenactment of a moment that could have ended my life.

Being a group of 6 and knowing that a car could only provide 5 buckles, I didn’t find it such a big deal if one person wasn’t buckled down. Because it was my decision, I didn’t mind being the only one without a seat belt… Until we got into an accident that almost had me flying straight out of the front window.

Luckily for me, my mom noticed the in-coming car and turned backwards to push me down, or else something worst could have happened.

After that incident, I always make sure that everyone in the car is buckled up. I also never go in or allow more than the proper amount of people in a car and I am a bit terrified of restless drivers after what had happened almost 10 years ago.
