Tracing an enslaved ancestor is like tracking a unicorn but that doesn't deter me from searching. On rare occasions records surface. These are my daugher's ancestors who were sold at the Danvile, VA courthouse in 1857. Her grandfather Brice was sold by Joseph Stovall for $1200. His last owner before emancipation was William Mills. After emancipation he and his wife were recorded as finally living together on the VA Cohabitation papers.
