Coffee: 3/5 –  They do have coffee but tea is their specialty. The teas are grown in Thailand. The tea drinks tend to be very sweet. You can specify the sweetness level and add toppings like boba, grass jelly, and pandan boba.

Ambiance: 4/5 – Nice, grey, off white and burgundy color scheme. Looks modern.  Hanging pendant lights cast a soft glow.

Noise: 3/5 – Loud music but it’s pretty chill

Plugs: 5/5 – Lots of outlets

Parking: 4/5 – Shared strip mall parking limited to two hours

Comfort: 4/5 – Comfy banquette style seating, small tables, good amount of space between tables

ChaTreMue was established in 1945 in Thailand and is now a global tea brand. The LA Chinatown shop was their first in the US. Think of it as a Thai-style boba shop.

The tea is grown in Thailand and they use traditional recipes. There are cool, mountainous regions of Thailand where the tea is grown and harvested. They are known for Thai Tea, Thai Green Tea, and Rose Tea. I’ve always wanted to try the Rose Tea but there’s a warning that it’s a natural laxative.

Order from the kiosk. The menu includes fresh tea, milk tea, tea lattes, yuzu drinks, rose tea, coffee and espresso. Toppings (add $0.65) include brown sugar boba, agar jelly, pandan boba, cream cheese foam, grass jelly, egg pudding, and brown sugar jelly.  You can adjust the sweetness level.

Assam milk tea with grass jelly, 30% sweetness ($5.25 + $0.65 for grass jelly): The Assam milk tea is sweetened with condensed milk and evaporated milk. At 30% sweetness, the drink was far too sweet. The grass jelly was soft, silky, and sweet. It seemed sweeter than average but maybe that’s because it was soaking in the sweet milk tea it was in. The tea flavor was fine and the drink wasn’t as creamy as I expected. It was just too sweet to enjoy.

I forgot that when I went before and ordered a Thai green tea, 30% sweetness, it was way too sweet.

There is a rewards program. You can buy their loose leaf teas. Strip mall parking was easy to find. They have free wi-fi and comfy seating.

There is no soft serve unlike the Chinatown location.

ChaTreMue was established in 1945 in Thailand and is now a global brand. They recently opened a shop in Los Angeles, the first in the US. The tea is grown in Thailand and they use traditional recipes. There are cool, mountainous regions of Thailand where the tea is grown and harvested. They are known for Thai Tea, Thai Green Tea, and Rose Tea.

The menu includes lattes, milk teas, yuzu drinks, tea floats, and tea flavored soft serve (2 flavors: Thai tea and Thai green tea, they were out of the Thai green tea). Toppings (add $0.65) include brown sugar boba, agar jelly, pandan boba, and brown sugar jelly.  You can adjust the sweetness level. For less ice and more tea, it’s an extra $1. The drinks typically come with a lot of ice.

Thai green milk tea, 30% sweetness, less ice ($j6.50 + $1): I guess I should have asked what is Thai green milk tea, only I ordered from the kiosk which had no explanation. I stood at the register for a few minutes but no employee greeted me, so that’s when I saw the order kiosks. Thai green milk tea is brewed using jasmine green tea, infused with pandan, vanilla, and mint. I thought it would be a regular green tea with milk. I didn’t like the additional flavors of Thai green milk tea and 30% sweetness was still too sweet for me. I thought it tasted floral and powdery, but I probably wasn’t used to the flavor.

The shop is large and has two self-serve order kiosks. It’s an older strip mall space that they filled with rattan chairs, hanging red lanterns, and a colorful mural. You can also buy tea to brew at home. They do have a rewards system through the Cash app.

I was curious about the Rose Tea with the natural laxative effect but they said to be a bathroom in 1 -2 hours later and I wanted to check out the DS Night Market and walk around.
