The comments on this Variety article about McConaughey not returning for True Detective season two is alarming for three reasons 1. Calling him selfish? Really? One- he's not entitled to do the show. Two- they made it clear since BEFORE episode one that this was a one-time thing. This wasn't some well kept secret. 2. I know we're all attached to Rust and Hart but do people really not trust Pizzolatto, the man who wrote every episode? He's coming back, the quality will surely remain! 3. I am worried the ratings will plummet because people will see Woody and McConaughey aren't there and will tune out, causing yet another quality show to be cancelled. Watch for the story, not the star power. I LOVE McConaughey and Woody on this show but I'm willing to give season two a chance.
The interview is new, they're talking about how great Rob is again haha but is different and Jason face and Jason hands and Jason everything!!!!!! ALSKJDS .... also he mocks Kristen about her height haha and Kristen is beautiful as always and I really like how she speaks every word is so well picked
Yay, thank you! Can't wait to see it!
Remember, this is still a business: Or, why the Veronica Mars movie can't immediately (and possibly won't) have a wider release.
Last year, the canceled-too-soon television show Veronica Mars made history and shocked the entertainment industry by getting fans, critics and industry folks to fork over their cash to help bring about a film version of the show. Everyone celebrated, it was a win for the little guys! Out of it also came a book series deal, a deal for a webisode spin-off thing starring Ryan Hansen, a new series for Rob Thomas, renewed interest in the show which led to an Amazon Prime deal, and loads of new fans interested in the show.
Then, a deal with AMC theaters happened, in which they would exclusively screen the film from March 14th. And then, the complaining started on kickstarter, twitter, and on individual sites, including the AMC listings page. Fans became upset that the movie wasn’t playing near them and there was anger because, dammit, their money was donated too and they wanted to see the film in more theaters! It just won MTV’s Movie Brawl, for crap’s sake! Like, I legit don’t blame people for being upset, I would be too.
Here’s the problem: even though this was a fan-driven project, even though the movie won a brawl and there’s renewed interest…the hype does not equal a box office success.
The studio behind Veronica Mars has to play this very, very safe. If they release this movie in the wide release that bigger movies get and it bombs spectacularly…the studio AND Veronica Mars will be a laughingstock. This Cinderella, back from the dead dream of a success story will become a cautionary tale against listening to what will be brushed aside as a miniscule but “loudmouth” fan base. Personally? I don’t want that.
Right now, the studio is playing this safe. Already, we have a great sign in interest in the film- the number of theaters was upped from extremely limited release (which probably would have been a week in ten theaters nationwide before getting thrown on demand like what happened to the UK heist movie Wasteland) was expanded to a crapload of extra theaters with AMC theaters agreeing to screen the film. Essentially, the Veronica Mars movie got a special deal with a big theater chain, as well as a release usually given to smaller films starring big names (see: Her, August: Osage County, Dallas Buyers Club, etc). That is MAJOR for what amounts to a low-budget indie film based on a show on two small networks that ended seven years ago. We weren’t even supposed to get that, guys. This was supposed to be extremely limited release, then right to on demand and DVD.
I would personally love to see the movie open wide but hype and buzz does not amount to box office (after all, a good bulk of the 90k kickstarter backers will get the movie to them regardless). Just because we’re here obsessing over it doesn’t mean people not immersed in the fandom are going to rush to see it in theaters and THAT’S what the studio is likely waiting on- they’re waiting to see if buzz translates to profit before discussing any further releases, spinoffs, etc. It’s logical and I don’t blame them. This is still a business, after all.
All we can do is hope for the best possible outcome and hopefully, enough people will show further interest beyond the kickstarter campaign and fork over their cash to show the studio that the interest goes beyond internet hype and 90k people. Like most indie films, if the interest is there, the release WILL be expanded. I’m personally hoping the movie does better than expected so if it’s near you, go see it. Contact your smaller theaters and ask for it- AMC already said they would work with smaller theaters. If not, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.
So, yes, I understand the frustration at not having a wider and/or international release and a Netflix season and blu ray releases now, now, now, but I also just wanted to give another perspective on the matter. Sorry for the tl;dr!
AHH, WAIT. Were you at the Miami Arctic Monkeys show last night, too?! Or are you at Orlando? lol. I was at the show last night! And oh god, YES. Almost everyone we were with hated The Orwells. I literally said that this was the first band I have just looked at and said, "I don't get it". It was so random? Like, AM and these guys have NOTHING in common, wow.
Orlando! Whereabouts in Florida are you?
The Orwells is the name of the horrible band? I have to be sure to fucking avoid anything they ever do, they were THAT bad. And the lead singer has no stage presence, the songs were awful…just the worst.
HOW AWESOME WERE THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, THOUGH? I think Alex got me pregnant about five times during the show.

So basically Iwan is just trying to rub his acting range in everyone’s face. Well done, sir. Well done.
I'm telling you. I full-on stan for the guy after seeing his un-fucking-believable range.
This is the same person. This fucking chameleon right here.
I'm ride or die with this dude. LOL
eta: BTW, I highly recommend Misfits if you haven't seen it yet.
My scattered, vague (not really spoilery) thoughts on Kristen Bell's movie "The Lifeguard"
In case you haven't heard, the film is on Netflix. I'll put my thoughts under a cut even though I don't think there's anything to spoil. There's no organization to my thoughts since I was writing as I was watching, deaaaaaaal with it.
tl;dr: Kristen was great in the not-so-great movie. Anyone else want to discuss it?
