running leap.
@chavery
dani stands just beyond the porch of meadowlark cabin, squinting up at the roof. the sun has just set, and it’s free time -- many people are out enjoying the weather, though she knows there are probably still girls inside the cabin, hanging out or showering or going to bed early. still, the lowest part of the roof is over here, and she doesn’t want to risk doing her first test run ( or, more accurately, test jump ) on a higher section.
besides, avery and sera are off somewhere, so she won’t get a better chance. she bounces a few times on the balls of her feet, testing her leg muscles. she’s never jumped so high on purpose before -- it’s only ever happened on accident when she gets surprised and suddenly finds herself clinging to a high-up branch of a tree. she figures now’s as good a time as ever to figure out if she can do it on purpose, though. what’s the worst that’ll happen? she’ll jump a normal height and flail about before falling on her ass. and besides, it’s not like there’s anyone around to see her.
taking a deep breath, she takes several steps back from the cabin, focusing her sight on the spot she wants to be: the edge of the roof. without giving herself time to second-guess, dani bursts into a sprint -- and her sprints are very fast -- and in barely a second she’s planting her feet and springing into the air.
she doesn’t completely clear the roof -- she didn’t really expect to -- but she does manage to grip it. her legs and body continue moving forward and slam into the wood of the cabin wall, and she winces, both at the pain and the strain of holding herself up on a gutter. she pulls herself up quickly, not trusting the integrity of the gutter to hold her weight for long, and soon sits on the edge of the roof, her legs dangling over the side as she grins proudly out at the campground below her.
her grin soon disappears as she recognizes her counselor standing in front of the cabin, staring right at dani. she brings the smile back immediately, not wanting to ruin her cool reputation with some fear of getting yelled at. “’sup, avers,” she says, flashing a peace sign down to her. “you like my parkour?”
