Somi... My dear, Somi finally debuted as a solo artist!
I first learned about Somi through Sisters Slam Dunk 2. She was the youngest member of the group there, Unnies and also known to be a member of I.O.I. before the project group disbanded in early 2017. During the opening episode of SSD2, there was a clip of Somi with IOI members at their last concert. She mentioned there she doesn't know what will happen to her three to four years later. She was 16 years old then.
There were times she cried during the vocalization. The show's vocal instructor was able to catch the trouble she is having every time she sings. Some somehow overcame this and was able to sing the SSD2 songs really well. She even produced the rap part of Lalala Song along with 2NE1's Minzy who was also a member Unnies. I started to like Some from this show and always watch out for her projects.
She joined various shows and even was a featured artist of some songs. Still, she hasn't officially debuted yet.
2018 came and Somi left JYPE. I'm glad she did because the solo artists there aren't given the promotions they deserve. Somi then signed to The Black Label. Teddy will be handling her. I don't really like Teddy's songs, especially his new releases. Too EDM and it is not my genre. So I was quite reluctant about Somi joining the label. But here she goes, slaying this EDM track, Birthday.
On 2017, she said she doesn't know what will happen to her three to four years later. On June 13, 2019, two years after, she officially debuted as a solo artist with two songs she happily participated in composing and writing.
She has now a reality show under Dingo's channel called Follow Somi. Episode 1 was aired last night and I learned Somi composed and wrote Outta My Head years ago. Somi said she cried when she and Teddy were recording the song. She also cried when she was finally watching her music video. I guess she wasn't able to grasp her solo debut that time but GURLLL SHE FINALLY DEBUTED!
And her songs are really great, especially Outta My Head.
Here's her solo debut song, Birthday. Just like what she said, she wasn't able to promote herself well in the public for years so the public only knows her color from IOI and variety shows. She added she doesn't want to get away from the color, thus this song.
Congratulations, Somiyaaaaa!
