Chazz is though
... so I just unlocked retainers on Jas
and obviously I made Chazz her first retainer
but oh my god he’s so tiny
I did the thing
in order: Jarexx, Avaraelina, Jasdralinda, and Chazzwik/Chechenji
side note:
the lack of a proper long braid for Ava in FFxiv does bother me
Pick a character and describe their first kiss :D
oooooh ok
... whenever I talk about Jas and Chazz’s experiences in Silvermoon, I feel like I need to add a disclaimer that this is built on my own interpretation of what Silvermoon culture is like and may not line up with whatever the common interpretation is so, uh... consider this that disclaimer
so, Jasdralinda and Chazzwik met in Silvermoon, shortly after the goblins joined the Horde. Being as they were both extremely lonely people, they spent a lot of time sitting on a park bench and talking (much to the disgust of many observers). After a while, this also included some shy hand-holding (much to the extreme disgust of many observers). Finally, this led up to a kiss (which was also shy and sweet and was definitely Jas’s first, if not Chazz’s). And then they nearly got arrested for “public indecency” which Jas would have found hilarious if it hadn’t been so terrifying, considering some of the things she’d seen other people do in that park. They left Silvermoon a week or so after that due to increasing hostility towards them as a goblin/belf couple.
For the hard questions - 1 for Chazzwick and 7&9 for Jarexx c:
woo, the one person I can count on to send me asks \o/ (at least when I beg in the tags lol)
(from this - which are still open btw)
1. Which should be saved – a bus full of innocent lives or a loved one?
(full name, so this is goin to goblin Chazz, not that Chechenji’s answer would be much different)
“I... gods forbid somethin’ like that ever happen. But... I'd save th' innocents.” His voice dropped until it was almost inaudible. “An' then I'd hate myself forever for it.”
(meanwhile, Jare in the background is going “what kinda idiot saves a bunch of people he doesn’t know over someone he loves?!” Jarexx, I don’t think you two have even MET on Azeroth, leave the poor man alone.)
7. You have the key to immortality in your hands. But not for free. If you want it, as a price, your worst enemy also gains immortality. Is it worth it?
(sending these to the lalafell version because I can lol)
“Well now... that would probably depend on who exactly gets counted as my worst enemy. Hm... if it was the Old Man? Then sure, why not. He hasn’t gone out of his way to get me killed yet. Or captured. Although I suppose that, by definition, that would make him not my worse enemy, wouldn’t it? So that would leave Sasala, probably.” Jare shuddered. “There might not be any immediate consequences to that, but once she was in charge? She might not be able to kill me if I was immortal, but that would quickly become more a curse than a blessing. So, no. It would not be worth it.”
9. Can people be held accountable for things people close or related to them did or are they innocent?
“Twelve forbid! I certainly hope not. My hands may not be the cleanest, but I know a lot of people who are far worse than me. And I’m related to all of them.”
the MSQ: “ok, we’re going to have you poach a turtle egg now ‘cause some rich fuck in Costa del Sol wants one to eat”
Chazz, an Official Gridanian Conjurer: “...um”
FFxiv 30 day writing challenge
Prompt 16: Ceruleum
... here’s the thing I would have used for today’s prompt if I could use previously written things lol
As his random wanderings brought him back to where his boss and Jas had set up, Jarexx caught a glimpse of the lalafellen man sitting next to the awkward young Elezen and felt his heart jump into his throat. Logically, this couldn’t be someone from his family. All Jas’s contact information had checked out, and as far as he could tell, she had never been outside of Coerthas or the Black Shroud prior to being hired. What was more, she seemed almost painfully earnest. Hardly the type to be employed by Desert Shades… even on the legit side of the business. This was almost certainly the man she had mistaken him for on their first meeting. None of which meant he was willing to risk his life on guesses. Fortunately, it appeared neither one had seen him. He was still far enough away that he couldn’t tell if the man was someone he recognized. If he looped around behind them, perhaps he could get close enough to eavesdrop without being seen.
Attempting to look like he was merely continuing his wanderings, and not like he was sneaking up on two unsuspecting people, he went around behind the tree, then hooked in closer until he was able to catch their words over the noise of the crowd. He had to get uncomfortably close to do so. What he heard was both reassuring and perplexing. The unknown Lalafell seemed to be telling Jas a story about a previous visit to the festival, in which he had nearly lost several siblings. Or maybe gotten lost himself. In truth Jarexx had no interest in the story, paying attention instead to the way the words were spoken. While Jare had yet to clearly see his face, judging from the hair and skin tone, the man certainly had The Look. His tone, however, was considerably more cheerful than any he could remember hearing from family. More importantly, no more than one word in ten had even a hint of Ul’dah in it. Jare acknowledged, at least to himself, his general inability to mimic accents, but he had thought he was good at placing them. But this? Bits and pieces from all over Eorzea, but the majority was something he was simply unfamiliar with. But he was not Ul’dahn, that was clear. And that meant that, look or no look, he was not family.
Finally reaching the conclusion that it was safe to be seen, Jare resumed his wandering along a path that would loop him around in front of the tree, trying to look like he hadn’t just been spying on the two people beneath it. He meandered around until he entered their field of view, pretending not to notice them until Jas waved at him. He nodded at her and wandered over.
As Jare got his first real look at the man’s face, he felt his heart skip yet another beat. He hoped the fear didn’t show in his eyes. This was no one he recognized, true, but those eyes. Dunesfolk eyes, the same shade of purple as his uncle. Without the calculation though… or the cruelty. As his fears let him take in more detail, he saw the open expression, so unlike anything he had ever seen on similar features. The man seemed unperturbed by the scrutiny, studying him in turn with an interest untainted by fear.
“You must be the fellow Jas told me about. We really do look rather alike, don’t we? … Are you alright?” “Fine,” Jare answered, trying to get a grip on himself. “I’m fine.”
The man didn’t look convinced, but he didn’t press the issue. Jas watched them both curiously.
“I’m Chechenji, but most call me Chazz,” he introduced himself, holding out a hand. “Pleased to meet you.” Jare stared at the hand a moment, then took it cautiously and shook it briefly. “Jarexx,” he said.
Chazz cocked his head at the unusual name. “Is that a nickname…?”
“No.”
Chazz raised his hands in an appeasing gesture. “Just asking. Say, you’re from Ul’dah, are you not?”
“Yesss…” Jarexx drew out the word, a combination of caution and suspicion, but he knew there had never been any point in denying his point of origin. Even if he could fake a non-Ul’dahn accent, his actions would give him away.
“I wonder if we’re related!” Chazz said in a tone that was far too happy for such a statement. “I believe my mother was from Ul’dah originally. I’m told I take after her side of the family.”
Jare’s mind flashed to the vague rumors that had circulated while he was growing up. Rumors that his father had once had an older sister. That she had left. The older generation had always stomped firmly on the whispers whenever they heard them, but when had that ever truly stopped people from talking?
“It’s… possible,” he allowed. It would certainly explain a lot.
“Really?” Chazz seemed delighted by this information. “How, do you think? And what is your family like? Mother never talked about them. I don’t know a thing other than that they were from Ul’dah and I look like them.” Jarexx turned, started walking away. “Better that way,” he said over his shoulder.
“What?” Jas and Chazz exchanged a startled look. Chazz got up to follow Jarexx, motioning to Jas to stay where she was. She nodded.
“Wait!” Chazz said as he caught up, “What do you mean? What’s the matter?”
Jarexx sighed and stopped, but didn’t turn to face the other lalafell. “Trust me,” he said quietly. “You are better off not knowing about them. Be glad they do not know about you.”
Chazz reached out, put a gentle hand on Jarexx’s shoulder. Jare flinched, but did not throw off the hand as he stared intently at the sand.
“What are you afraid of?” The question, too, was gentle.
“Nothing that concerns you.” Jarexx answered almost too quietly to be heard. Then he did shrug the hand off and marched determinedly away, leaving a baffled Chazz behind him.
