Prompt 24: Undertone
Jarexx looked up from his papers in his newly remodeled (and sadly still organized) office as the door opened, and an ear twitched in annoyance at the sight of teal hair. He frowned at the conjurer.
“What do you want, Chechenji.” Everyone else called the him Chazz, but Jarexx refused the familiarity of a nickname. The lalafell turned those unnaturally guileless purple eyes on him and Jarexx fought down a shiver. No one who looked like that could really be as innocent as Chechenji seemed. No one.
His cousin, however, seemed unconcerned by the rude welcome, simply offering him a friendly smile. Chazz had long ago come to the conclusion that this was simply the way Jarexx was, and was determined not to read too much into it.
“I’m getting ready to take a trip to Ul’dah,” he said, and Jarexx blinked in surprise. “It’s one of the few places I’ve never been, you see? And I thought that since you were from Ul’dah, maybe you’d have some ideas of places I should be sure to see while I’m there.”
Jarexx realized his mouth was hanging open slightly, and he closed it with a click, although he continued to favor Chechenji with an incredulous expression. After a moment, his mental apparatus began to grind back into motion. He didn’t like Chechenji, true. He sure as fuck didn’t trust him. But even so…
“Don’t,” he said.
“What?” Chazz’s friendly smile turned to confusion.
“Don’t go to Ul’dah,” Jare told him. “Ever.” Chechenji’s coloring was far too classic. He was bound to be noticed by the wrong people, and he hadn’t even a single earring to protect him. Although given the disarray Jarexx had thrown the family into, gold hoops would be a uncertain shield at best.
“But… why not?” Chazz knew of none of this, and his confusion was genuine.
“You’re better off not knowing.” An answer that Chazz had gotten before, and not only from Jarexx. It grew more frustrating every time he heard it. His brows furrowed.
“Why do you always say that?” His frustration made his tone almost accusing. “I know that means it has something to do with our family, because mother always says the same thing when I ask! Why won’t anyone just tell me?”
“If you’re always hearing it, then maybe you should listen,” Jarexx retorted. “You asked for my advice, and I gave it. Don’t go to Ul’dah. It’s dangerous for you.” Almost as dangerous as it was for Jarexx himself. Chechenji’s mother, too, had fled… and a good deal further than Jarexx had. Jare was entirely unsurprised that she didn’t want to talk about it either.
“If it’s so dangerous, then shouldn’t I know why? How can I avoid something I don’t know about?” Jare’s answer had not lessened Chazz’s frustration in the slightest.
“That,” Jare told him, “is not my problem.”
And with that, Jarexx returned his attention back to the papers in front of him, deliberately ignoring the lalafell in the hopes that he would recognize a dismissal when he saw one.
First and Last Screenshot of 2017

man I took a lot of screenshots this year, and at some point I discovered that gpose existed lol, so I think I’ve gotten at least slightly better at it!
... Henry’s version of that first screenshot was definitely better than mine (... but then, he was already a master at gpose) but I do still like that pic of Khulan
second one was right after I finished putting Chazz’s actual outfit together \o/
tagging: idk who hasn’t done this yet? It’s fun tho, do it
you know, I think this is my first time doing this quest on a character that would actually know how to drive one of these things
ok, this set’s pretty cute on Chazz, I gotta admit
Jas and Chazz retainer screenshot, take 2
... Jas is Not A Fan of the default retainer outfit
Chazz is though
... so I just unlocked retainers on Jas
and obviously I made Chazz her first retainer
but oh my god he’s so tiny
Prompt 23: Alms
“Please, Hearer! Without healing, he’ll die!”
“I am sorry, but the Elementals have denied your petition. I cannot help you.”
The highlander’s face crumpled, and he looked around beseechingly. He found only compassionate but unmoving expressions… until his eyes locked on to Chechenji’s face. The lalafell’s stricken expression turned briefly to alarm and his stomach lurched. He darted out of sight, but the man got to his feet and followed.
“Conjurer, please.” The voice was quiet, but it rooted Chazz’s feet to the spot. He turned reluctantly and looked up at the man. The expression on his face broke his heart.
“I… I can’t…” Chazz tried, he really did. He knew his duty, knew that to help would be to risk his own position in the Twelveswood… and even his life. And yet…
Chazz looked around for observers, then motioned for the man to kneel down. He did so, expression turning to one of hope. Chazz muttered a very quiet “Where are you staying?”
When Chazz made his fugitive way to the small collection of tents and lean-tos of the refugee encampment, he brought a small bag of food with him. This, too, was prohibited help for those denied by the Elementals. But the lalafell was no Hearer, and he couldn’t understand why offering help was so wrong. He was afraid, true. He might be able to hide his actions from his fellow conjurers, but the Elementals were something else again. Yet still he went. He’d become a conjurer to help people, damnit. And helping people was exactly what he intended to do.
