is tommy wearing the same clothes from the 20 seconds he was in the premiere cause if so that's hilarious
Hey Nonnie
No he isn't - the shirts are very different - they're different colours for starters, but the pattern of the checks is also different.
801 is a black and white check pattern, made up of black white black white weave vertical and horizontal stripes that give this slightly fuzzy look to the check and they have a white check pattern set over the top of that as you can see in the picture below - its a fairly uniform check pattern
the new one from 805 is white and grey and it is made up of horizontal and vertical stripes of differing thicknesses to form the check pattern which gives us checks of different sizes and styles. It gives the check a more busy and chaotic look and this is what is super key about it - its increasing level of busy-ness - it suggests that the net is tightening on Tommy - and bringing his time on the show to an end!
I hope this helps and that seeing them in the same post helps make it more obvious! it doesn't bode well for Tommy that we've only seen him in check (and red) in this season so far!
I'm really curious why is the checkered shirt a bad omen?
Sorry if you have explained this before, I'm just new.
Hey nonnie
Welcome and I hope you enjoy my blog - its lovely to have you herre!
Don't worry I am always happy to talk costume and colour related things (well I'll talk about pretty much anything show related tbh!)
So in a nut shell, when a character is wearing check clothing in some capacity, something bad is about to happen to them - this could be that they are the one caught up in one of the emergencies, or it could be a main who is about to go through it in some way. Tommy wearing it here is a clear symbol of the hurdles and issues ahead and it is very much a symbol that Tommy won't be sticking around for long (especially in combination with all the other elements of the scene!)
If you're interested and want to read more, my pinned post is a master list of all my costume and colour related posts and the one for Check theory is listed there - so feel free to check them out and my inbox is always open for asks if you have questions 😎
I knew he was the bad guy - check theory never ever fails me!!
I told you Lola's Belisha Beacon Red Check dress meant she was the one in danger - Check theory never fails me 🤓😊
Kym!! Are you also losing your mind over that promo like I am! Part of me is just screaming over the buddie of it all but the other part of me is concerned about buck in that check print and if that’s gonna play out some way… (also I see you yellow-ish background lighting!) As always would love to hear your thoughts! 🤎
MONIQUE
The way I have lost my mind!!
I've just put out a post about a few things I spotted but Honestly - it is serving all of my wildest dreams!!
I'm actually not too worried about the plaid - for the reason that it doesn't have to mean bad things - in this case - because of the use of yellow ochre - I feel like its in reference to the fact that Buck and Eddie haven't communicated that well since the shooting - so that Check is actually a throwback to the shooting - something major happened an they didn't talk about it so things have been off for them but now they are starting to talk - talk about the shooting. There could also be the underlying worry Buck was probably feeling about how this whole thing was going to go - we don't know at this moment in time if we're going to get a scene of Buck at Eddies saying something along the lines of 'Theres somewhere I'd like to take you - do you trust me' - because theres no guarantee that Eddie would say yes - or that it would turn out well.
This whole scene is a turning point for the both of them - its the moment we see the distance between them begin to close (because even in 5x13 they were still miles apart when Eddie told Buck what he was afraid of) this is the moment when we see Eddie actively accepting Bucks help - verbally and actively accepting are two different things - you can verbalise without actively following through on something - so to see the next phase play out - and in this way is epic and wonderful and I will never be okay again
Sorry go a bit rambly there - can you tell I'm excited? How am I going to survive another 9 hours?!!
