Kym my lovely! Can we please talk about that absolutely beautiful pink dress that Athena is wearing in the vow renewal pics. I know there has been alot of pink this season and you've touched on some of it but I feel like is an interesting shade of pink and I'm curious to hear your take on it 💗

Hey Monique my lovely!!!

we can most certainly talk about that stunning dress that Athena is wearing! I got another ask about the dress (and Bobby's outfit) from @trashendence so I am tagging Iri so they can read about Athena's dress as well!!

So we have more pink! this is a sort of metallic puce pink to my eye with a slightly bronzy/copper sheen to it. Basically the fabric is puce pink, but either the warp or the weft of the fabric has been woven with the bronzy/copper thread - giving the iridescence we can see. Which is of course to me, all very interesting, as is the fact that this is the most floaty dress I think we've ever seen Athena in - she is pretty much always in fitted clothing, but here we see her in something floaty and feminine!

To me this choice to go with ruffly femininity is actually a fascinating choice for Athena because we so very rarely get to see Athena in this way - it shouts of Athena actually becoming super comfortable in he skin - she doesn't need to be wearing the armour she has been wearing all her life and can finally live in her full identity - the battles she's been fighting on several fronts are reaching their conclusions (the jeffery of it all, May and her choices, Harry coming though his trauma, Michael, the resolution she got in finding Emmett's killer etc) and she can move into the next phase of her life.

As for the colour of the dress - because its a shot fabric we should give equal meaning to the two colours - there is essentially the same amount of them both in the fabric! I've spoken about pink a fair bit in my 5x15 episode meta, pink is love, compassion, intuitive and nurturing it can be uplifting and playful. Then there is the energy and dynamism of orange (copper), we combine this with bronze because those are the two colours in the warp or weft (which ever one it happens to be - I have no way of knowing because I didn't see the fabric on its bolt to know!) provide strength and support, affection and loyalty.

All of this sums up Athena and where she is at right now pretty well - it also suggests to me at least, that whatever Bobby ends up going through next season - she will be the strength and support he needs - in much the same way as he has been for her this season and that - that is beautiful!!!

Hey Kym! Hope you're having a great week. Costume question about 5x18. I know you've talked alot about Eddie's watch but I thought it was really interesting how prominent Buck's watch was during the breakup. Do you think that was intentional and if so, what do we take from it? Or am I just reading too much into it! As always, love your work! ♥

Bucks watch is so interesting to me so I'm glad you asked about it!! I'm still ploughing my way though my full costume plot for all the mains, so I don't have fully formed thoughts or a theory on it, but something I've noticed about Buck and his watch is that he doesn't seem wear it outside of work (that we can see) generally. so if he is wearing it outside of work, then it gains more significance. It's almost like its a physical manifestation of the idea of time - its the same idea we see with Eddie and his watch - not having time, or not feeling like he has enough time - that he's constantly racing against the clock. Eddie nearly always has a watch on and we see it more prominently when Eddie feels time is racing. With Buck we get the same concept, just presented slightly differently, so with Buck we get him wearing a watch outside of work only when he is in scenes where the idea of time is important in that scene time is moving on, or when he is with people for whom time is running out. This is why we see him wearing a watch around Taylor a lot but less frequently with Eddie or Maddie.

With Eddie and Maddie it tends to be more when there is change or evolution in their relationship - so when Maddie moves out of Abbys place and into her own, or for Eddie when Buck takes him to get Chris after the earthquake (the beginning of Buddifer), or the shooting and the will scene (also when Buck tells Chris about Eddie being shot).

Like I said its not a fully formed theory at the moment, but there is definelty something interesting going on with Bucks watch - especially in relation to his romantic relationships and also Eddie!!! so its something to keep an eye on in S6 (although there are so many things to keep an eye on that I'm not sure I can see straight anymore 😂)

Kym!! Are you also losing your mind over that promo like I am! Part of me is just screaming over the buddie of it all but the other part of me is concerned about buck in that check print and if that’s gonna play out some way… (also I see you yellow-ish background lighting!) The way I have lost my mind!!

I've just put out a post about a few things I spotted but Honestly - it is serving all of my wildest dreams!!

I'm actually not too worried about the plaid - for the reason that it doesn't have to mean bad things - in this case - because of the use of yellow ochre - I feel like its in reference to the fact that Buck and Eddie haven't communicated that well since the shooting - so that Check is actually a throwback to the shooting - something major happened an they didn't talk about it so things have been off for them but now they are starting to talk - talk about the shooting. There could also be the underlying worry Buck was probably feeling about how this whole thing was going to go - we don't know at this moment in time if we're going to get a scene of Buck at Eddies saying something along the lines of 'Theres somewhere I'd like to take you - do you trust me' - because theres no guarantee that Eddie would say yes - or that it would turn out well.

This whole scene is a turning point for the both of them - its the moment we see the distance between them begin to close (because even in 5x13 they were still miles apart when Eddie told Buck what he was afraid of) this is the moment when we see Eddie actively accepting Bucks help - verbally and actively accepting are two different things - you can verbalise without actively following through on something - so to see the next phase play out - and in this way is epic and wonderful and I will never be okay again

Sorry go a bit rambly there - can you tell I'm excited? How am I going to survive another 9 hours?!!

Jumping on what your previous anon was saying about Taylor, I thought it was really the first time from memory that we've seen Buck strongly put his foot down about something in their relationship. And then if she was to go around him to get an interview well that would be interesting to see his reaction to that.

It really really is - especially after last week where Buck was letting Taylor do what she wanted in light of his guilty conscience!

You're right it will be interesting to see if she continues to pursue Lucy for an interview etc and how that might play out because its building in such a way that there is going to be some sort of explosion and then the fallout from said explosion!! I really hope it plays out in a way that gives Buck the opportunity and reason to be the one to end it - they've spent enough time showing him clinging that it wont serve his development or future well if he isn't the one to pull the plug in the end!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It feels like it took me forever to write because the buddie stuff just floored me (and I kept rewatching the kitchen scene on repeat but that’s on me🤣🤣🤣) - there is just so so much detail going into the costume s for them that is helping to tell this epic love story and it’s making me feral!

Isn’t it great getting to have more images - it makes me so happy I don’t have to sit and agonise over which costumes are the most important to show 😂

Sorry its taken me an age to get back to this - I'm currently on holiday with the family, so my time on tumblr has been cut rather drastically! I was hoping I could get an answer to you about this before I came away, but alas, time got away from me and I failed!

What I am doing though is writing a big meta post on Christophers room through the season, and looking at his costumes as well, because I got a few asks all about similar things so I thought it made sense!

I promise to tag you in it when I post it, but in the mean time - you are right those two California posters are an interesting part of a bigger picture!!
