There are two ways to make a checker cake
you get a kit like this:
which lets you bake the layer with the colors already in place
or you bake the color layers separate and then swap the pieces
what's the difference, you ask? Well, without the kit, you'll need to make one cake layer per color. So for the typical yellow and chocolate you need minimum 2 layers.
For six colors, though-
Do you see the chaotic vision, friends?
It would result in three separate cakes
You may ask why I don't just make one 6 layer cake. Well, it's not recommended to go over three layers without some sort of support. And considering I'm cutting the rings out and sticking them back in place with icing, I don't just the thing not to collapse if I do that.
So I would have a cake for me, and would need to find some people to give the other 2 to.
It's either I do that, or I find a checker tin kit, which would let me get all the colors I require with just two layers. We shall see, it depends on 1. if I can find myself one of those tins, and- 2. if I can convince someone to help me make 3 cakes and find a porch to leave the third one on
also, I'd need, like, 6-8 pounds of icing
