What is MOT? And how it actually works?
MOT (Ministry of transport) is basically a mandatory test mainly taken in UK after specific age of vehicle (almost after 3 years). MOT is conducted to ensure the safety, roadworthiness and exhaust emissions. If your car does not undergo MOT testing then you will most probably be breaking the laws. Yearly inspection is carried out according to the rigid criteria of DVSA to check whether your car is drivable or not.
MOT is not concerned with the basic mechanical state or repairing of your vehicle rather it only checks all types of lights (headlights, fog light, rear light, reverse light), tyres, seatbelts, it checks whether your doors are operating properly or not, whether your horn is working or not, checking is done for the seats too that whether they are in good condition or not, windscreen will be checked properly that if there is any scratch or cracks, finally brakes are checked for the proper efficiency and working of car and many more. All of these checks are done by DVSA approved inspectors at MOT workshop.
Once you have passed the MOT test your are provided with the MOT certificate as a proof that your vehicle has completed the inspection and now your car is ready to meet all the environmental and driving safety regulations. MOT test is usually mandatory once in a year. And if your car does not undergo MOT test there will be no chance of getting any MOT certificate as it is against the laws.
