hello this is not my usual sort of post (cannot stress this enough, this is an 18+ blog. dont follow me from this post if you are a minor or expecting more like this, i am a Freakbird) but i have been reading nonhuman posts for a while and i have never seen this discussed and i think it is so cool and useful:
species affirming fragrances
there's so many possibilities. some fragrances are designed to smell like specific animals, such as kitten fur by demeter, or just reminiscent of them, like the entire zoologist line! there are So Many of these. rabbit, bat, tiger, penguin- and a lot of more unusual animals like squid or dragonfly, so if you struggle to find stuff for your species this could be a fun way
'animalic' is an accord in so many fragrances if you just want a general creature vibe and there isn't anything specific for you. same with musk, if you're a musky smelling creature. warning, some of these are pretty funky/barnyardy and you might not be comfortable with wearing it in public
the general concept of having a signature scent could be euphoric for a lot of creatures, i think. like for canines or felines that scent mark. if you wear a specific fragrance enough, people will associate it with you. they'll be able to smell your presence before they see you, you'll leave a literal trail of scent (called sillage), and people will know which rooms you've been in.
speaking of felines, specifically the fragrance obsession by calvin klein is known to be very interesting to big cats because it smells like a pheromone they have!
if none of the above applies to your species, you can get fragrances that smell like your habitat so you can always feel at home! there are aquatic and salty fragrances, woody and mossy fragrances, tropical fragrances, even deserts
i think it's a very underexplored area for subtle and fun species expression. you can get 1ml samples for extremely cheap to try it out! (although full size bottles are very expensive, so i understand it might not be accessible to everyone for everyday use). if you want to look up fragrances for this you can search by notes on fragrantica. just search for a scent that reminds you of your species/habitat and have a read!
