Indonesian Rendezvous Uncle doesn’t have many people he’d like to hang out with at Stuff/Fairfax Media as it’s akin to sticking pins in your eyes. But SW Espley and Marcella are angels Uncle would hangout with, anytime. So our Christmas get-together is at It's Java, Vinegar Lane, just across the street from the Stuff HQ. And Marcella is originally from Indonesia. There’s a new Indonesian dish on the menu, very apt for the “silly” season. Nasi Goreng Gila is Crazy Fried Rice, served with marinated chicken, vegetables, fried egg, pickles and crackers. Gila! Marcella opted for a dish less “gila”, Bakso ( meatball soup) - a bowl of steaming goodness, of meatballs, stuffed tofu, vermicelli rice noodles and bok choy. Incik Zemmy offered us Indonesian cookies to try - nastar (pineapple tarts) and cheese sagoo (cookies).
