sometimes I just wanna be a colorful monster living in a whimsical spooky monster town with haunted houses and cars in which people say “awful night” instead of “good morning” and eat gross food that they like and make monster puns all the time, you know?
I made this awhile ago for an audio class. I had an amzing time with it and thought I'd share it on here. If you enjoy please let me know
The Mummy: A True Gem
Tonight I watched The Mummy. Not the crappy Tom Cruise version. The beautiful, sappy, ridiculous Brendan Fraser version where the entire plot is about how a dead guy wants to get back with his dead girlfriend.
Evelyn Carnahan is played by the lovely Rachel Weisz, and is equal parts charming and clumsy. Her general disdain for the rude mannered American named Rick O'Connell is hilarious, and even more so when she discovers he's quite attractive when he's not all wild-eyed and bushy-haired. Her proclamation of "I...am a librarian" with that proud look on her face is completely adorable and she is perfect, even if her curiousity over a book raises a nasty undead man.
Her brother Jonathan is, quite frankly, the main source of the comedy. When we first see him he is hanging out with a shriveled corpse in an open sarcophagus in a museum, much to the distress of baby sis Evy. We learn he has knicked a curious little box from some unsuspecting person and he presents it to Evelyn. She almost instantly figures out the box and opens it to reveal a map to the lost city of the dead.
And then there is Rick. Rick is portrayed by none other than the glorious Brendan Fraser and his many facial expressions are cause enough to sit through this film. He's brash and daring and totally in love with Evelyn, and it is so clearly evident when he shows interest in what she is doing and presents her with a tool kit he stole from the other team that was in competition with them for the treasure. His natural response to a screaming mummy is to scream louder, and honestly it's the best.
The general asthetic and cheesy horror is amazing and I love every minute of The Mummy. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
