Askazer-Shivadlakia is “the little country by the sea” — a coastal micronation perched between France and Italy, with Europe’s only Jewish royal family and a distinctly queer-friendly culture. The irreverent but earnest Shivadh people have recently elected a new king, Gregory III, and the Shivadh romances follow him and his extended family, as well as their new friends and partners, as they manage love, politics, and an ever-expanding social circle.

The Chicken Salad War
Simon LeFevre, chef to the royal family, has plenty to keep him busy -- aside from feeding everyone, he’s on the planning committee for the Reclamation Day Festival. Unfortunately he’s been partnered with the city’s newest chef, Mr. Ylias Lazaar, with whom he does not get along.
Ylias, happy to be home where a woman with male honorifics isn't especially unusual, is excited to be opening her own restaurant and enjoys prodding Simon a little. When she claims she could improve on Simon's curried chicken salad, they decide they’ll enter the Reclamation Day cooking competition, and may the best man win.
It's becoming evident to both of them that a casual relationship based on bickering could perhaps be more -- now if only they could get on the same page as to what "more" might mean.
