Acacia Hotel Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary With Guest Chef Boy Logro
Acacia Hotel is celebrating its fifth anniversary by having one of the country’s most popular and well-loved culinary personalities, Chef Boy Logro, as its special guest chef for the month of October. The Chef Boy Logro Creations series will feature several outstanding dishes that will be available from October 11 to October 30, 2016 at hotel’s The Lobby at Acacia, A Steakhouse, Acaci Coffee Shop, Tree Top Lounge and its 24-hour In-room dining service.
Acacia Hotel Manila is a Filipino five-star hotel brand which opened in October 10, 2011 and is managed by Enderun Colleges. It is located in the fast rising Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang, Muntinlupa and is just a short 15-minute drive from Magallanes. I have had several staycations at Acacia Hotel in the past three years and I have seen how it has grown from a young Filipino-owned hotel to an outstanding brand showered with numerous awards and accolades from local and industry experts. The Hungry Kat and friends from the media were invited last October 11 to see what exciting new dishes Chef Boy Logro had prepared for Acacia Hotel’s anniversary month.
An intimate gathering was set up at the hotel’s Acaci Coffee Shop which offers a daily buffet of local and international dishes. The hotel’s slogan – “Filipino Like No Other” truly resonates in each and every aspect of Acacia Hotel Manila, from the unique and contemporary hotel interiors, the heartwarming staff and the food they offer.
This October, Acacia Hotel imparts to its guests a truly Filipino experience through their delightful culinary partnership with renowned celebrity Chef Boy Logro. Together with Acacia Hotel Head Chef Aldo Palaypay, Guest Chef Boy Logro shall be graciously sharing his wealth of wisdom with the hotel’s team of Filipino chefs as well as curating a special menu inspired by the country’s culinary diversity. The tandem shall be presenting Spanish inspired dishes with a Filipino twist, something that all guests will find close to their hearts.
It had been some time since I last visited Acacia Hotel so this media event was a welcome chance to come back to one of the first hotels that started my staycation adventures. Contemporary instrumental music was played throughout the afternoon giving the venue a charming and elegant ambiance.
Chef Boy Logro is one of the country’s iconic culinary experts and is widely known for his TV appearances, most notably as the host of the TV Show called “Idol sa Kusina” - an entertaining and informative weekly cooking program airing on local television. He is also an endorser for major food brands, a restaurateur, and a philanthropist on his own way by putting up his own culinary school called CLICKS (Chef Logro’s Institute of Culinary and Kitchen Services). Being a Filipino-owned hotel brand, Acacia Hotel has found the perfect partner to symbolize its Filipino heritage.
Acaci Coffee Shop offers a delightful lunch and dinner buffet spread for just P1,395 nett per person featuring hot dishes curated by the culinary tandem which I will show you later. These selections shall be included together with the restaurants’ International Buffet which starts with some cold appetizers plus sushi and sashimi at the Japanese section.
Acaci also has a special “Paluto” section where you can choose from meats and seafood like chicken, pork, squid, salmon, tuna, prawns and crabs. You can then have them cooked the way you like them and have the server bring the finished items to your table. I really like the salmon belly and I had several pieces grilled for me.
One of the favorites is the Carving Station where you can find this sumptuous US Choice Cut Beef Short Plate. You can get as many slices of this tender and fatty roast beef for yourself.
Before we started with our lunch buffet, Chef Boy Logro held a cooking demonstration to show how he prepared some of his featured dishes for Acacia Hotel Manila. His charming and funny on-screen personality is really the same with his off-screen persona so everyone had fun seeing his performance live.
It was then time for us to sample Chef Boy Logro’s specialty dishes. First up is this appetizer which is part of the three-course set menu offered at The Lobby at Acacia and A Steakhouse for just P980+ per person this October. The Cream of Corn Soup with Avocado and Shrimp Tartar has a thick and rich broth bursting with the creamy combination of corn and avocado. This warm and hearty soup is a good way to start any meal.
The main course for the special set menu is the Grilled Rack of Lamb with potato malunggay puree, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, guava mint glaze and lamb jus. I was amazed with how perfectly cooked the lamb was, with its skin slightly crispy, yet the meat inside was so tender and juicy. I’m not really that fond of lamb because of its smell but I really enjoyed this dish because the lamb was not gamey at all. The malunggay puree was also quite a revelation because I never thought malunggay could taste that good, especially in this form which is similar to a mashed potato. I highly recommend this spectacular dish.
Chef Boy Logro’s set menu also comes with the Kahlua Chocolate Marquis for dessert. This is rich, coffee-flavored dark chocolate marquis is topped with a strawberry and paired with a macaron for a more indulgent experience.
For those who like visiting the Tree Top Lounge in the evenings, the Trio Y Miscal is this month’s featured dish which combines three distinct appetizers in one plate. An order includes Beef Salficados, Grilled German Sausage with Sauerkraut and Nacho Crispy Shrimp Popper with guacamole and salsa which is available for just P595+.
If you would rather have room service, diners can enjoy the Turmeric Lentil Crusted Snapper Fillet in the comfort and privacy of their rooms available 24 hours a day for just P685+.
But for those dining at Acaci Coffee Shop, you can expect to see Chef Boy Logro’s featured dishes displayed at the buffet tables this entire month of October.
The Spiced Coffee Rubbed Baby Pork Ribs was one of the first items I attacked at the buffet. This has tender pork ribs doused in a coffee-flavored sauce that gives it an added depth of flavors. This is one interesting item that everyone should try.
On the other hand, the Ginger Soya Poached Chicken with Kailan Leaves is a much lighter dish that is almost similar to a tinola. The chicken has an easy and delightful taste and you can have any time of the day.
Another interesting creation from Chef Boy Logro is the Pan Fried Tilapia with chorizo, bean ragout and citrus beurre blanc. This Spanish-inspired dish brings all the ingredients together to create a balanced and enjoyable flavor.
Finally, the Rabo de Toro or Spanish Ox Tail Stew is another highlight from the Chef Boy Logro Creations series. This tender stew is a classic Spanish dish that Filipinos are familiar with and I really liked how soft and fork-tender the meat was.
Aside from the Kahlua Chocolate Marquis which is also included in the buffet, you can also choose from a wide selection of sweets and treats at the Dessert Station. I particularly like the Oreo donuts as well as the Chocolate Souffle topped with Ice Cream.
So if you are a fan of Chef Boy Logro or you want to try his Filipino Spanish fusion dishes, head over to Acacia Hotel this month and celebrate the hotel’s fifth anniversary with the Chef Boy Logro Creations series. You might even catch Chef Boy Logro himself at the buffet one of these days.
