hi molly! i just wanted to say that i love myths? like, so much??? each song on it has a completely different vibe™ ( hanahaki has sort of an indie pop vibe, coroner's report feels v hozier, island of lost things has a very cake bake betty vibe, and mile magnificent feels very southern gothic? like, i'd put it on a playlist w the s1 theme of true detective ) and i would listen to a complete album of each of those different vibes™ in a heartbeat. i can't wait to listen to what you make next ❤️

a couple people in the early stages were like, “if you have plans to be a musician and potentially get a record deal you’re going to have to, uhhh, pick a genre to be in,” to which i was like BOLD of you to think i have plans of any kind!!!! and also: that’s a very salient point and they are correct about it but listen, i just kind of feel like…. sometimes i want a pop jam and sometimes i wanna be sad on a piano and sometimes i want an accordion!!! some days you gotta have an accordion no matter what genre you’re supposed to be writing in and babes, that’s that on that.

film historian jamie (laura harrier) is writing her thesis on her small town’s claim to fame, vintage starlet blanche la verne. blanche, most famous for starring in a blockbuster as snow white at the height of her fame, faded into obscurity as she aged and disappeared. jamie’s small town decides to hold a festival in blanche’s honor on the anniversary of her disappearance, complete with crowning a new snow white from seven nominated contestants.

much to her chagrin, jamie is nominated, as well as beauty blogger lily (sophie turner), insta influencer ginny (chloe moritz) and jamie’s crush, anti-make up activist teeny (kristen stewart). as the girls discuss beauty, power, patriarchal demands, and how standards are different for women of color, the ghost of blanche begins haunting mirrors and attacking beautiful people throughout the town. so i see… whiny, entitled brat prince farkle minkus, and like completely savage wizard’s apprentice isadora smackle. and like farkle doesn’t want to get married but alas, as the oldest unmarried son in the royal family, his parents are pretty willing to auction him off in order to settle the war. and isadora isn’t even in line for the throne, but princess riley does not want to get married to prince farkle, and isadora, her adviser and one of her closest friends, is willing to take that bullet for her. so either isadora disguises herself as riley, with some potential magic bamboozling, or they’re like “eh, the highest wizard is close enough. and then we’ve got like, they fucking hate each other at first, but when their kingdoms (now united into one) come under attack, they’re willing to work together in order to defeat the evil sorcerer (oh and they fall in love along the way, oops!)
