Nam Sangbae's seemingly overreaction now makes a lot of sense.
His over the top defense of Dongsik to Kwak Ohsub as they (along with Joowon) were watching Dongsik being grilled by Dosoo and Jihwa wasn't in defense of Dongsik.
It's to cover up for him too.
Sangbae, at this point, had already erased the CCTV footage of Dongsik planting the fingers in front of the grocery store. Even if he didn't know who Minjeong's real killer was, he knew it was Dongsik who planted the fingers there, and didn't care to ask—mostly so he wouldn't incriminate himself too.
The less he knows himself, the better.
Sangbae wasn't angry during this scene. He was being deliberately misleading.
He was covering up for Dongsik.
And isn’t it ironic, given how Sangbae had once fallen victim to a parent covering up for her son, and here he is, doing exactly the same thing?
(The acting choices of Cheon Hojin to deliver this incredibly nuanced and layered meaning are top notch.)
