just left the state fair and here are my thoughts
darry ? waits all year for the state fair. he loves it so bad.
his favorite rides are the ones that go all the way around, yes please flip him upside down
two-bit spends all his money on the rigged fair games. his favorite are the ski ball and basketball games but he’s also oddly rly good at the ring toss games
despite winning (and losing) the fair games he has to be bribed to go to the fair. so far his main incentive is the lemonade (specifically the ones in the tupperware/plastic container) those are his absolute favorite
dallas is really scary and refuses to get on rides. every year he’s like “no i’ll get on all the rides, watch” but the first ride darry drags everyone to is the one that slowly lifts you up to the top then you plummet down and dallas hollers the whole time
all you hear is “oh shit oh shit fuck you darrel fuck!” and next to him is darry laughing his head off then they drop and darry is screaming right along side him
ponyboy goes on three (3) rides then decides he’s too big for them (he starts feeling sick and dizzy bc he refuses to eat fair food) and leaves to find the petting zoo and animal shows
soda HATES when pony finds the animals bc he hates the zoo smell. he loves horses yes but the petting zoo reeks and soda can’t stand it.
soda is also darry’s partner. they go on every ride together bc soda is the only one who can keep up with darry wanting to go on every ride at least twice
johnny follows two-bit around because he too is oddly rly good at the rigged games and two-bit always gives him enough money to win everyone at least one oversized stuffed animal
johnny also wins like two goldfish every time they go to the fair. (the goldfish don’t live very long bc they always forget to buy fish food and they think if they make crumbs of human food small enough the fish can eat it. spoiler alert the fish can’t it)
steve goes on five rides then gets bored and goes to watch the truck show. it’s his favorite part imagining all the tricked out things he’d add to his own car (sometimes he gets so caught up he’ll talk to randoms and ends up getting new customers for the dx)
cherry bob randy trip and marcia absolutely adore the fair. they don’t wiat all year like darry but once the fair comes they’re so excited
it’s the one time everyone is drunk, not just the boys, and they have the time of their lives
cherry and randy love the fast and scary rides and throughout the night they vomit no less than five times
bob goes on one (1) fast ride and is immediately sober. he’s in a funk for like thirty minutes because ofc they didn’t bring any liquor inside the fair so now he’s the only sober one.
he still has fun tho bc he takes several blackmail pics of every one
bobs favorite thing is to blow money at the rigged games and claim he’s gonna win a prize for everyone except he’s actually really fucking bad at the games and he never wins anything more than the tiny stuffed animals
chet on the other hand is hilariously good at the games. and it’s funny because he does not like the fair.
him and beverly think it’s too loud especially with all the rides having their own music that’s a completely different genre than to the ride right next to it, and twelve hundred people keep pushing and shoving past them, and all the little kids screaming and shouting. ugh my babies they hate the fair
the only thing beverly likes fr is the ferris wheel but even that is a stretch. she like it for forty five seconds then gets bored and complains the rest of the time
marcia is like indifferent to the rides. she likes them enough but her favorite thing to do at the fair is walk around with trip and go “aw look at that stuffed [panda]! aw man that games looks hard, no way anyone could win 😔” then act all surprised when trip insists he could win
(trip spends at least 50$ on every game but marcia goes home with three giant stuffed animals in her arms five more in the trunk)
cherry wants to go on every single ride ever even the little kiddie rides. (it’s the one night where she’s drunk off her rocker instead of bob and she is looser than a goose) she drags bob to every single ride and makes him stand in the long lines for her while she wanders off (paul follows her don’t worry) and gets every sugary treat she can eat before it’s there turn to ride
her favorite treats are deep fried pickles, onions, oreos, twinkies and ofc funnel cakes.
no one in the group is allowed to leave until cherry has tasted all the food and ridden every ride with everyone at least once
more times than not bob has to carry cherry out the fair because her favorite ride is the magnetic anti gravity one and every time she rides it over and over and over again RIGHT before it’s time to leave and she ofc makes herself so dizzy she throws up and is seeing stars and she begs and pleads for bob to give her a piggy back ride
(begs and pleads bc every time bob claims the last time was the last time he would carry her out the fair but he is a sucker for cherrys green puppy dog eyes and cherry knows it)
randy goes on all the rides with cherry (icr if i said that already) but he unlike cherry he keeps bob company while waiting in the lines with him.
randy is really clingy and sleepy when he’s drunk too. um he follows bob around like a toddler and refuses to let him or cherry out of sight. (he likes the others well enough but they can go to other side of the fair and he’d be none the wiser)
brill likes the fair a moderate amount up until he gets there then he remembers he adores the fair. he’s runs around and convinces beverly to take a hundred and one pictures of him
