my chet lore is so funny cuz like imagine ur him and one of ur best friends dies, so then his girlfriend who you've been in love with for years finally goes out with u, but its a really shitty relationship so she dumps you, and then she starts hanging around and eventually dating the guy that you had a messy situationship with that one time and was ur gay awakening. and then u have a lavander relationship with some random new girl before moving to san francisco and just living ur best gay life and finally becoming an actually decent person.

cherchet but they were neighbors growing up.

they played together all of the time and they were really close all through growing up. they would hop the fence to hangout. chet once broke his arm trying to go over it in one jump before he hit his growth spurt.

their bedrooms face each other and they have a window that they used to talk through. cherry has climbed onto chet’s roof to bang on his bedroom window to get his attention.

chet has had a crush on her since like the 6th grade but by the time he realized and worked up the courage to do anything about it, she was already dating bob.

whenever bob got too drunk or he and cherry would have a fight, chet would drive her home “just cause it’s on his way” but he’s the main person she tells about their relationship issues besides marcia.

cherry has cried about bob in chet’s arms so many times over the course of their relationship and even after it ends

chet doesn’t even like bob. in fact, he’s terrified of him. but he puts up with it just so he has the chance to be around cherry. he’s gotten threats from bob multiple times for “moving in on his lady”.

once bob actually decked him and he avoided cherry for days. it was the biggest fight they ever had.

they’ve always loved dancing together, they started when they were kids impersonating grown ups but they realized they actually liked doing it. they’ve made many dance routines in their day.

cherry doesn’t realize how she feels about chet until years after bob dies even if she spent all of those years wondering what that pang in her chest was whenever he wasn’t next to her.

they called all of the time in college and once they were both home and together they constantly held hands or had an arm around the other.

i swear by this and i always will but the first time cherchet ever REALLY hangs out is when Chet threw a football straight at Cherry’s head.

It happened during PE class, and Chet was just so unlucky as to get the side with the sun beaming down right on top of him. Of course, the blinding light threw off his scholarship worthy aim.

Marcia, Beverly, and Cherry were walking around the field together.

The pair constantly slowed down whenever they passed by the boys, eyes lingering on their boyfriends Trip and Brill as they tossed the ball in a triangle with Chet. The constant stopping and speeding up was beginning to get on the redhead's nerves.

She gave up on walking since attempting to catch her best friend’s attention was like trying to pull a 3000-pound weight out of quicksand. Surrendering, she stood on front of the girls which made for good conversation.

All of a sudden…

Bev’s eyes go wide as Marcia’s hands are flying up to her agape mouth with a haughty gasp. Cherry, completely confused quirks an eyebrow before turning around to see what they are staring at. What exactly has them so speechless—

BOOM.

A hard object hits Cherry at the top of her forehead, knocking the girl off balance and onto the grass.

The image of them all just standing there for a second makes me LAUGH. Imagining Chet with his hand covering his mouth like “🫢” and Cherry just staring down at the ground… His stomach feels like it drops hundreds of feet because he just hit THE Sherri Elaine Valance. The girl he’s been crushing on since freshmen year. Cherry. In the head. With HIS football.

She can hear Brill and Trip laughing over the ringing noise in her head, followed by panicked feet rushing toward her spot in the grass.

Immediately, Chet’s rushing out apologies getting the words jumbled and all mixed up. He’s obviously nervous to see if she’s alright.

Cherry finally looks up at him, her red hair tussled from the hit. He’s still rambling by the time she has dusted herself off and stood back up. Running a hand over her pleated skirt, she can feel her patience thin at the sight of mud staining the pink fabric.

“I thought you actually had to have aim to be on the football team.”

SILENCED.

She quips back and it’s the only thing that gets Chet to shut up. Cherry is trying her HARDEST to keep her voice from shaking she’s FUMING (however, it’s mostly embarrassment).

There’s a moment where she plays stubborn, finally giving in much to Chet’s relief.

Together, they walk to through the halls staying quiet. He’s said it hundreds of thousands of times yet he feels the need to say it once more.

“I’m really sorry y’know? I wouldn’t do something like that on purpose… but— especially not to you.”

Her facade seems to fade.

Sitting on the cot with an ice pack on her head, she speaks softly. It’s not the same confident, self-assured tone she uses when with everyone else during lunch or at the drive-in. All soft vowels and smooth consonants piecing together with her thoughts.

She assures him it’s okay. It was more embarrassing for her than painful, not to mention Trip and Brill did not make the situation much better with their dopey laughter.

“It ain’t hurt too bad, right?”

Hesitating for a moment, he brused aside a stray curl — checking the area for bruising. Chet’s gaze flits to her eyes, then to the floor anxiously pulling away with haste. A way more romantic gesture than it should have been, they are just friends. It doesn’t go unnoticed the way her cheeks tinged with a warm hue similar to her hair as a quiet no— no i’m fine slipped past her lips.

The pair sat and simply chatted for a while, waiting out the rest of the class period.

It ends with him convincing her to skip class and grab a milkshake with him

Hai okay this was written SOO long ago just found it in my drafts. Maybe I’ll write a full fic about it but it’s a scenario that’s been in my head for months now. @aeurobie high-key was a part of me developing this scenario when it came to be thanks king

do any of you guys have cast duos that are your preferred actors of ships? like if you ship cherrycola, do you have a favorite actor pairing of cherry and soda, etc

i thought of this cause i saw someone post a ship and say that they only like it when its those two specific actors in the roles and it made me realize that i like my favorite ships with all the actor portrayals but i still have specific actors i picture in each role when i think of the ship

was just doing a little research for a fic as per and was looking at the origin of the name Chet

Chet normally comes from Chester or Chesney and i cannot get Chester out of my head (i don’t remember if RJ ever came up with a middle name for Chet- if he did please remind me) but now i am absolutely stuck on the idea of his mama callin him

“CHESTER HENRY BAKER”

and i shall be referencing that from now on thank you very much

like think of Soda finding out he’s called Chester? His dad comes home and shouts for him to come downstairs “Chester! come do the dishes!” and Soda never lets him live it down and goes as far to call him “Chetster” to forever take the mick

if his middle name isn’t Henry tell me and i’ll change it but i think it suits him personally

also someone tell me why when i was doing music for gcse drama people i found out that chet baker is an actual musician from the 50s and now i absolutely listen to him while studying
