This was the weirdest town Malachi had ever encountered. Hands down. The entire damn place had shut down so that they could celebrate a raccoon. As if that wasn’t strange enough, Malachi had somehow found himself on this trip. He needed to socialize more, it was what his mother would have said, and this was as good a way as any, he reminded himself; but it was freezing and he hardly knew anyone. All Mal wanted to do was go back to his mostly empty apartment, cuddle up with Athena, and watch mindless television until he was so exhausted that he couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore, but instead he was here socializing. At least he’d had the forethought to bring Athena with him. “So, this a normal thing for this place,” he asked, catching the eye of the person across from him, Athena’s leash wrapped around his hand. “Because, full offense, this shit’s weird.”
