Queer Ghost Emojis!
Happy Halloween!
The current progress pride flag is... not that pretty. To be clear, I have nothing against anyone who uses it or anything - hell, I own one myself, and I really appreciate the inclusivity it aims for. That said...
I’m no graphic designer or anything, but both progress flags are busy, and the colours kinda clash. It feels like too much on one flag.
Plus, horizontal stripes are kind of overused in terms of pride flags. There are maybe 3 mainstream pride flags I could name with non-horizontal lines on them, and even less with any unique shapes.
So I thought I would take my crack at it. Again, I’m not a graphic designer, but I wanted to give it a shot.
First off, the base. I decided the Philly pride flag would be the base, since it is the most iconic representation of the community while still being inclusive.
However, the colours are really bright, so for my own preference’s sake I toned them down.
Then I thought of national flags, and took inspiration from them to add a symbolic animal to the flag. Naturally, I chose a lion to symbolize the bravery of the community to exist in the face of bigotry - and, of course, to represent pride.
Finally, it was time to incorporate the rest of the key flag elements. I added a purple circle with a yellow “shadow” under the lion head to represent the intersex people that consider themselves part of the community. (While not all intersex people consider themselves LGBTQIA+, some do, and that symbol is there to represent them.) I also made the lion’s made into the trans pride flag.
Lastly, I added a vertical white stripe on either side of the flag to represent all “fringe” identities in the community who are less commonly known but nonetheless a member of the community. I chose the colour white specifically, since white light is made up of every other colour combined.
The result: the Community Pride Flag.
(Obviously you don’t have to use this if you don’t want to! It’s just a suggestion for a potential new flag that I made to see what a flag with elements other than just horizontal or vertical stripes would look like.)
