Chevron Refinery upgrades

Utility regulators are approving a plan for Mississippi Power Company to upgrade facilities at a Gulf Coast oil refinery that is its largest customer.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to allow the electric utility to renew a 20-year contract with Chevron Corp’s Pascagoula refinery.

Community Health Warning Issued After Flaring at Chevron Refinery

A Public Health Advisory for Richmond, North Richmond and San Pablo after flaring at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond.  The flaring began at 10:40 am and ended by 10:50 am.

Chevron called the flaring a normal part of operations.

Chevron to celebrate anniversary of Richmond Refinery fire by burning oil wells

Chevron announced earlier today, that in honor of the one-year anniversary of the massive Richmond refinery fire that sent 15,000 East Bay residents to the hospital for respiratory problems, they're lighting oil well fires to mark the occasion.

When Oakland Unseen reached out to a refinery spokesperson, we received the following reply:

"We want the people of Richmond to know that we're here to stay. We will be handing out asthma inhalers and facemasks door-to-door throughout Richmond, Albany, San Pablo, El Sobrante, and El Cerrito today. We just want to remind residents that we plan to continue making an impact on this community."

I live close to the fire in Richmond, but not close enough to be in the shelter area. If I chose to live just a couple of miles further North I'd be screwed. Or if the wind shifted ever so slightly. Blind luck.

I feel so bad for all the people who've gotten sick. The emergency room in Richmond is literally overflowing.

It's scary.

hahaha I find it so funny how people are complaining that they can't leave their house for the next 24 hours because of the chevron refinery fire, and I'm just here like, wait people leave their houses on a regular basis?
