Had a lovely day exploring l’Acadie de Chezzetcook, an Acadian museum and community just outside of Halifax. There was a lot of religious object inspiration for future art projects, and the houses were lovely! The last photo, I believe, is a Sacred Heart of Jesus, most likely kept in the foundations of the house… we don’t know why, but you bet I’ll try to find out! No one was really there, except us and a few guides (who could’ve been a bit more researched sadly). Sadly though, the French hens were no longer there (the fox got to them), the garden was not active (odd for summer) and not a single ancestral skill was demonstrated (tourism Nova Scotia’s website’s information must have either been outdated, or I wasn’t aware of their scheduling). Ok.. perhaps they’re underfunded? It’s a real shame :(
These two books are great resources for this community! Lots of folkways in there!
And! The museum has an exclusive product that I believe can also be bought online! Le Tour Acadien card game features prominent locations, family names and notable people, 35 cards, with a set of seven six-sided die. These are a great opportunity to use as divination or to call specific ancestors honestly, and the art is breathtaking! https://acadiedechezzetcook.ca/collections/all
