No Kings. Chicago, March 28, 2026
There were protests in Chicago today (Feb 1, 2025) against ICE near Trump tower. After we passed them, we saw at least 10 undercover cars, presumably ICE, heading their way with lights and sirens. I'm not sure what happened, but I can guess. People were live streaming it on TikTok, and now there's no mention. Nothing on google either except from 5 days ago.
People are fighting against all of this, please don't let lack of media coverage dissuade you from doing the same.
Please stay safe everyone and remember, cover your face at protests and don't video other peoples' faces. Love y'all
CALL AND WARN EVERYONE IN CHICAGO TOO
The manifestation of Black & Indigenous Solidarity in Chicago.
Chicago saw violence and looting last night. I love this city and it's disheartening to see this type of destruction because it's hard to see the looting as anything other than opportunistic.
But modern downtown Chicago was largely built by TIFF funds. If you don't know the TIFF funds were supposed to go to economically blighted neighborhoods around the city.
The funds never made it. They were siphoned into downtown Chicago by Mayor Richard M. Dailey in his bid to make Chicago a world class city and bring in various businesses, corporations, etc...And he did it, downtown Chicago is beautiful.
But many poor black neighborhoods are still blighted and many Chicagoans live in neighborhoods that look precisely like downtown looks right now.
Now I feel for the small businesses owners that had their dreams shattered last night., I can't imagine...I just can't but conversely this black eye on the city also feels a bit like justice.
If those TIFF funds had been invested into people's neighborhoods like they were supposed to, if schools in Black and Brown neighborhoods got even similar funding to schools in many white need people might feel they had something to lose, might have empathy and sense of connectedness to these business owners, they might make different choices. They might not feel justified in this behavior.
I don't know. I'm not saying the looting and destruction is right. I'm worried about the long term consequences to the economic health of our city and my ability to live in it and enjoy my life but I don't think it's as simple as people make this out to be.
Speak up for change ,
March for for change ,
Fight for change .
July 16th, 2018 || Hundreds gathered in South Shore, Chicago for Harith Augustus who was shot and killed this past weekend by Chicago police. The residents of South Shore demanded accountability for the shooting and critiqued 5th Ward Alderman Leslie Hairston’s lack of concern and action following the shooting. Among other things, they called for the audio of the shooting to be released and for the community to support Harith’s family/friends financially and emotionally. Residents also recalled personal stories of police brutality and the intersection of police brutality and sexual assault for black women. Photo by Sehar Sufi.
