"DEAR BLACK - a freedom piece" . . . Thank you, thank you, thank you to the organizers of @activate.chi for giving me a platform to speak for my people. 38,000 attended the March in some capacity, whether it was from the FB invitation or the residents at home that heard us in the streets and then joined. Either way, this is just a single reminder of why I do what I do. Nothing fires me up more than my role as an artistic political activisit. My roommate asked "were you nervous?" And I said "no" because before I got on that stage I knew that my nerves were not more important than the message I had written. That's always my mindset everytime I step into any theatrical production, because hopefully I am telling a story that needs to be told. From Critical Mass to Occupy Wall Street, bicycles have been a unique tool for taking the streets. In the weeks that followed May 30, dozens of marches took place throughout the neighborhoods of Chicago. And ever-present were bikes, so many I lost count. Often it would be cyclists leading the march, or corking traffic to protect protesters from any angry motorists. On the night of Juneteenth, a group of about ten Black children wanted to keep marching on their own after the main march ended, along with their parents and a drummer. Myself and another cyclist flanked them with our rear lights on to make sure drivers did not pose a threat.

The gallery was broken into around 10pm last night. They pulled out the ATM and busted through into the gallery, stole all the artwork. We are saddened but even more saddened about the systemic racism in our society and we know things need to change. People are fed up. If you want to help out, please donate to the local organizations that are working hard to end the police brutality and racism that is embedded into our systems.
