I just saw The Good Place S4 EP13 and all I have got to say is
I am proud. I am proud of each and everyone of them. All of them did things they had wanted to do and succeeded in it, and they learned things that they had wanted to.
Jason played a perfect game of the video game he liked with his father supporting him. He DJed and danced one last time with his crew. And then, he waited for so many Bearimys for his love to come back, controlling his impulsiveness. And then he happily ran through the final door.
Tahani mastered everything she wanted to, which was about everything on Earth, bonded with her sister, and finally got to spend time with her family as a real family, with love and fun. She got her parents' love which she tried so hard to get while she was a kid, and then she finally got it in the end. And then, instead of walking through the last door, she simply started doing what she did on Earth but for herself: helping people.
Chidi got to talk with his heroes, discuss philosophy with them, and live a beautiful life with his girlfriend. He saw their parents accept each other completely and even enjoy each others' company. And then, as he was in front of it, he made the biggest decision of his existence and walked through that final door and into the unknown.
Micheal got to live as a human and got a dog named Jason. He got to fulfil his desire of living and experiencing about everything a human does, and just live his life the way he wants it.
And Eleanor. She changed the most. There she was, with her last friend Janet, talking as she got ready to walk through that final door. She got closure with about everyone she wanted to get closure from, and helped Mindy Saint Claire to move through and give that last test and get into the Good Place. She helped Micheal get his life of being a human. She, along with her friends, changed the afterlife, and when it was all done, when she had helped her friends achieve what they wanted and saved everyone, she walked through that door, finally at peace with herself and what she has done. Alone, but at peace.
Janet, however, is the one I pity. Our amazing not-so-girl saw everyone walk through that door, and would eventually see Micheal walk through that door. She would be all alone, because that's the curse of immortality, of infinity. Everyone you love will eventually have to go away, and you will exist still, helping others and getting them on their way, away. I can only hope that Janet finds inner peace, and the rest if her existence is peaceful.
The Good Place was a series with a bittersweet ending. Everything was done, yet about everyone walked towards their end, peaceful, mindful, and full of love. This series redefined many things, and as it leaves us, I bid it farewell, and thank you.
