Time Seems To Stand Quite Still, In A Child's World, It Always Will: The magical Child World chain of toy stores with their fantasy arches, towers, and battlements. Inside were long, high aisles filled with Masters of The Universe, Princess of Power, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, you name it. The stores went bust in the late '80s -- supplanted by Toys "R" Us -- and the one that I just adored as a kid in Western New York is now a bank. You won't see these great themed structures again in Twenty-First Century America with its cookie-cuttering of architecture, making every storefront indistinguishable from the next.
The beloved, dearly-departed Child World chain of toy stores, also known as Children's Palace in certain territories. These were famous for their dinstictive designs featuring storybook-style battlements, arches, and turrets. Just the sight of the store made me think of Helm's Deep when I was little. You can still see remnants of the architecture in storefronts around the country.
