Two days ago a family of 5 took a Louvre tour and their 11 year old girl had a question - why is this old man holding a gun? This is one of those things #oneofthosethings that make you happy to be a guide - fresh perspective and genuine, uninhibited curiosity our young (and sometimes old) tour goers give us. Our guide explained it was a book, not a gun (in itself a topic for a juicy discussion); next to the explanation that handguns of this shape didn’t yet exist in Europe of that time, it did indeed look like one.
