Trope Talk with The Toons | Always Accepting!
In a bunch of Astro's dialogues with the other Toons, Astro has a tendency to apologize to those he's speaking to
Now, this was a habit he had even prior to the incident. It's a part of his mostly passive personality, and was brushed off as just a little character quirk. But after the incident, all this apologizing has more weight to it.
It definitely stems from his feeling of social isolation from the others. As mentioned several times, Astro feels isolated from the others because of his relationship with Dandy, his best friend. He's essentially a walking reminder of the incident, and the fact he knows something that they don't doesn't help matters.
And so, he tries not to upset the others even more, trying not to rock the boat that's essentially a still-floating but broken ship. After all, he's supposed to be the one taking care of them and listen to their woes, inconveniencing them seems like rubbing salt onto the wound.
Not to mention, it's a projection of the guilt he feels down inside. Guilt that all of this happened on his watch, guilt at seeing those around him die and become Twisteds while being powerless to stop it, guilt from his initial failure to protect and care for the others, guilt that he makes those around him uncomfortable.
At least they'll know he didn't want and mean for all this to happen...right?
