Chinantec woman, Mexico, by Thomas Aleto
The Chinantec town of Rancho Grande is the latest addition to a list of Indigenous Paradise communities whose purpose is to promote tourism.

Last night, I watched a brief documentary about the Chinantec people of the Oaxaca region in Mexico. Alongside their native language, they developed a whistling code used for long-distance communication and it fascinated me to no end. The men "whistle-talked" like strange birds over the hills and cornfields. While it's used as a mundane and practical form of speech, I found it so magical and was transfixed by it.
