Super odd that our current administration, leftists, and democrats are demanding I get the Covid-19 vaccine when not even a year ago they were telling me I shouldn't trust it and not to get it.

If you insist on calling it the "Chinese flu"...

If you insist on calling it the "Chinese flu" or "Chinese virus" because you believe the Chinese government should be held accountable for their role in this pandemic, then I can't stop you.

But the Chinese government won't be affected by your choice of nomenclature.

Your Chinese neighbors (and really ANY Asian neighbors), however, may very well be subjected to harassment and violence. We've seen it in the past: when Americans feel threatened by "those people" (Japanese, Middle Eastern, Mexican, Central American), our collective xenophobia gets inflamed and people get hurt. People get killed.

I know this. You know this. Nobody gets to plead ignorance because we see it ALL THE TIME in America.

And it legitimately DOES NOT matter if you think racist violence is right or wrong. Your feelings about what you mean by "Chinese flu" don't matter. What matters is that racist violence is *real*, and that it hurts *real* people.

For all your noble aspirations of "holding the Chinese government accountable," the fact is your words are far more likely to be seen/heard by a white supremacist than the Chinese government. It is statistically far more likely that you are influencing people with violent, racist tendencies than you are remotely affecting China.

If you insist on calling it the "Chinese flu," YOU are contributing to that violence. YOU are contributing to the mindset that the Chinese are to blame, regardless of your intent. YOU are responsible for fanning the flames of xenophobia and racism that gets people hurt and killed. YOU are participating in the climate that leads to innocent people getting hurt.

And yes, that means that if you continue to defend the use of "Chinese virus," knowing that such a term can lead to violence against a group of people, YOU ARE BEING RACIST.

Just because someone else is wearing the hood and carrying the rope doesn't mean you haven't played a role in what's going to happen.

Hold the Chinese government accountable. But don't paint targets on your neighbors' backs.

people talking about Trump being racist for calling it “the chinese virus”... but that’s what it fucking is.

I am italian, a country with 60 million people.. and you want me to believe we have more deaths than fucking china with only 20k positive cases against the 80K+ cases in China? who can be THAT DUMB? seriously.

I would like to put an emphasis on the fact that I was in China twice and I had severe diarrhea.. and they didn’t even have fucking DRUGS to CURE THAT. they just gave me some useless herbs that of course didn’t work one bit.,, my friend’s dad’s been living in China for like 10 years, then he got a heart attack, I won’t even go into the details, I’ll just say if he didn’t move back to Italy he’d be DEAD now.... but yeah I’m sure they can cure such a serious disease more effectively than Italy, the country with the BEST HEALTHCSRE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.

Hot take, but if we're allowed to make jokes at Germans and Germany's expense about being Nazis, or Germany being responsible for the holocaust, we're allowed to make jokes about China making the whole damn planet sick.

It was because of the incompitancy of China's government that thousands are dying. If I have to deal with literally every event I had planned this year likely being cancelled, y'all can deal with some jokes about bat soup or the Chinese virus, no matter "racist" you think it is.

People are dealing with a lot of shit because of all this, ranging everywhere from minor inconviences to outright death of loved ones, and we should be allowed to use dark or "offensive" humor as a coping mechanism. Your fucking "feelings" don't matter compared to that.

Young people are getting extremely sick from coronavirus, according to new evidence

Despite initial data from China that showed elderly people and those with other health conditions were most vulnerable, young people are falling seriously ill.

You. Are. Not. Safe.

Almost a quarter of the nearly 28k coronavirus patients in Italy are aged 19-50. Of the nearly 2500 cases in the US, 705 are aged 20-44. US cases have had 15-20% become severe enough to land in the hospital, and up to 4% needed intensive care. Some have died. 

We do not know enough about this virus to not take it seriously.

Wash your hands, minimize contact with other people and pubic spaces as much as possible, and only take what supplies you need for about a 2-4 week long quarantine. Give scientists a few more weeks before you decide this isn’t real, because you might just kill somebody.
