I had this conversation last week with a Chinese lady at an Asian supermarket in Paris. According to her experience, professions in arts and humanities are not commonly seen among the first and second generations of Chinese immigrants. The first generation, due to language difficulties and lack of social resource often chooses jobs that require low language skills in order to survive: factories, shops, restaurants...Second generation, equipped with adequate education and competent language skills, often seeks (or strongly encouraged by the family) to change their condition by choosing professions that bring direct improvement to their economic and social status: lawyer, accountant, doctors…Self-actualisation comes after security and self-esteem, sitting on the top of the pyramid. #chineseimmigrant #immigrant #profession #carljung #sliceoflife #webcomic #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/BwOlQsYh3WO/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lzgjaii3vga0
