I took this in Paris on holiday there last week. I loved this cloud that looked like a huge ball of smoke and how it’s emerging over the domestic buildings.
The little glint from the window bottom left wasn’t intentional. I can’t decide if I like it or if it distracts from the overall image. I have another without the glint but also without the balconies on the right hand side and I liked those more than I didn’t like the glint.
I also love the deep blue of the sky which is accentuated by the white cloud.
I was really into the rows of chimneys that are on all the buildings there so I’m glad that is captured here, in real life and in the shadow.
Twisted chimney in Køge, Denmark. The guide told us that there are 12-14 of these in the country and only atop old smith's shops.
“c-can I hold your hand?..” Chimira
Chim was slowly coming down from his fit of murderous rage as he prowled past rows of metal shelves, all lined with his collection of jars. He had managed to “fix” an issue Kira was having with someone who has getting a little too hands-on with her, and as Chim wiped a splatter of blood from his arm he muttered under his breath, “Stupid son of a bitch didn’t know who he was fucking with”, and chuckled darkly as he tapped a finger against the glass of a nearby jar, “Isn’t that right?”. Floating within the jar were a pair of human eyes, blue in color, still somehow carrying a faint trace of fresh panic within their depths.
Chims face spread in a rictus grin as he turned, leaving the jar to its fate among the others. He checked his shirt again, it was surprisingly clean despite the rather intense mess he had made, excellent.
The slipped out of his room of macabre trophies and into his home, where she was curled up on his couch. Good, she wasn’t crying. He hated when she cried, he didn’t know how to deal with it.
He plopped down on the couch next to her, smirking in satisfaction. He had good reason to feel smug after all, he had properly disposed of the problem and got a nice meal out of it, along with a shiny new set of eyes.
He was preening over how well he had done when he heard her soft voice pipe up, “Chimney?”
“Hmm?”, he gave her a sideways glance. She had her hands clasped tightly together in her lap.
“C-can I hold your hand?…”
There was a long pregnant pause as the cogs in his mind spun wildly. She shifted slightly in her seat, “I’m sorry.”
He stared at her in bewilderment, but silently he took her hand into his stony palm, and used his other hand to grab the remote. He had planned on a movie marathon with her anyways so might as well.
Later after the movie was over and she had fallen asleep on the couch, he removed his hand and walked to the kitchen. As he walked he examined his hand, thinking about how small and soft hers was in comparison his cold slate-like palms. He didn’t get the point of all of that, but whatever.
At least she didn’t cry.
So a bird just flew in through our chimney.
This is the fifth time this has happened this winter.
Seriously.
This is the fifth bird that has flown into our house through the chimney. Yesterday the fire had only just died down so the bird just missed landing in red hot embers.
We lost our chimney cap (somehow) and I guess the birds figure it's nice and warm down inside. They all hang out in a tree in front of our house and then take turns being complete idiots and diving down the chimney into our living room.
Yesterday we got two. Last weekend we got two. Today we got one.
Here's the thing. We have six cats. Six. It is the last house I would want to be a confused bird in.
Luckily none of the birds have gotten caught by the cats, we've always been able to sort of guide the bird out and keep the cats at bay. Today was a near miss though because I was upstairs when the bird was making its descent. I just saw one of the cats staring up the chimney and knew what was probably going on. As soon as I registered that we probably had another bird it burst out of the chimney.
I feel really bad once they get inside they realize that they've made a terrible mistake and spend the next couple minutes madly bumping into windows and paintings until they find the door. My tactic is usually to catch them when they grab onto a curtain and bring them outside that way. My dad favors opening as many windows and doors as he can stand (it's like 10 degrees Fahrenheit outside, max) and trying to shoo it out.
My way is way more efficient.
But yeah. I'm pretty sure we're going to get another one before the day's out because they seem to go chimney bombing in pairs.
Birds are really fucking weird.
