It's the use of the term fem![phrase] in both your tags and the OP's what made me uncomfortable with the post as, in my experience, that usually implies changing a character from cis male to cis female. The way you described it in your last reply seemed to imply that you thought my problem was overall characters having different genders than canon, which was why I wanted to correct, as a nb person myself. If you want to tag it as rule 63 that's fine as long as it's tagged.

ah, okay. i only meant to use that phrasing to include characters who are portrayed as trans/nb in addition to those portrayed as cis in posts i’ll tag as rule 63; personally, i’ve seen people use the “fem![phrase]” term to refer to both of those. i’m sorry if that initial reply was confusing. and yeah, i’ll be more careful with tagging in the future.

5. What is your favorite movie/TV show to gif

so i probably don’t have a single favourite thing that i looove giffing, but some of my top faves are moon lovers and doctor who,,, idk i just love giffing those ml bc of the lovely costumes and sceneries and also potential for angst, dw bc of the cOLORS and the BRILLIANT cinematography tbh

9. What/who inspired you to start making gifs

so im not sure smth inspired me to start making gifs as such, but like... lets see, way back in 2011 or smth when i joined tumblr dot com as a tvd icon blog (i kNOW)(my icons were bad and also poorly sized tho, funnily enough, the 200 sizes are used here today lmao) i followed a bunch of tvd blogs and saw lots of gifsets? im pretty sure thats the first time i actively tried to make gifs, and it was like... something for a fanfic, someone was like ‘id love to see an edit or smth of this scene in my fic’ and i was like i can probably do that no?

but i had seen gifs before that, just used more in graphics i guess

well. so basically. i have terrible internet. storage is a problem but its not as MUCH of a problem as internet. and also i gif straight from episodes of things. so,,,, yeah i keep the videos forever rip

the only things ive deleted are things im CERTAIN im never going to watch/gif eVER again but im never sure of myself and am generally inconsistent so, rly, thats very little (supernatural)(the episodes of tvd that didnt have caroline)

tbh idk if i have a specific style? That is to say ofc that everyone has a specific style and by extension so do i, but i don’t know my style... i guess soft sharpens lots of colors and late to the party when it comes to coloring trends? im not sure tbh

49.How much would you say you’ve improved since you first started giffing

in fact i still have my first gifset bc that blog is saved, so: here

as you can see, it was.... bad. i had no idea about tumblrs allowed sizes in terms of either dimensions or file size (thats why the first one wont move rip), sharpen what sharpen, my coloring.... did i even use coloring? if i did it was after the way you’d color graphics, not gifs, and also....... listen i straight up didn’t scale it down. this was the size of the video. it’s just a crop. it’s not even a GOOD crop. i didn’t know how to crop to a specific ratio, either, so they’re all just attempts at getting the same width and height...

basically i was small

so from that to this (my latest gifset) i’d say.... a Lot right?

thanks but the problem isn't being portrayed as a gender different than that they identify as in canon.....It's when they go from cis gender to Another cis gender

definition of a gender bent character: “A character that has undergone a complete physical sex change.” (source)

definition of rule 63: "For any given male character, there is a female version of that character." (source)

i’m guessing the original ask you sent me was about this post, which came off my queue a few hours ago. as far as i can tell, there’s nothing in that post that suggests that the characters portrayed in that fanart are cis, or that they’ve undergone a “complete physical sex change”; so i think the term “rule 63″ works better. admittedly, it’s not the most the most trans-friendly term out there, but it is generally well known and a widely used tag for fanworks like that post. as a result, i prefer using that term over “genderbending” (which is often considered transphobic, and which several of my trans/nb friends are uncomfortable with.)

if you know of a different tag i could use, or if there’s something i’m missing in your messages about why anything i’ve posted or reblogged makes you uncomfortable, please let me know. and i apologize for not tagging the post when i first queued it.

dude can you Please tag your genderbending posts.

i’m not comfortable with using the term genderbending, and i tend to avoid art/fic/etc by people who use that term. but i can use the tag “rule 63″ for anything with characters portrayed as a different gender than how they identify in canon.
