“I don’t feel so good today, Chloe.” it’s honesty, at the very least. He hates that the thought of getting out of bed exhausts him enough that he could simply fall back asleep.

It’s difficult, but he knows if he’s careful, he’ll make it out of bed sooner rather than later.

But his heart is working hard, too hard, and he’s just so goddamn exhausted -

“I’m sorry. Maybe give me another five minutes?”

“Chloe?” his voice is inquisitive as it filters out from the bathroom (along with a bit of steam from the shower he’d just taken). He’s looking for the clothes he knows he had placed on the sink before he washed up, but they’ve seemed to have grown legs and walked away.

“If this is your idea of a joke, I mean, it’s pretty funny. But I’m really cold, so can I please have my clothes back?”

“Well, it ain’t fancy, but it’s the best I could do with the sun going down as quick as it is.”

It’s more of a shack than it even is a house, but it’ll fit the two of them at least somewhat comfortably and offer shelter until morning. He’s already put up some emergency defense mechanisms, but he can’t finish barring the doors until they both retire inside for the night.
