ok now its out i looove the new camp episode btw. i have been waiting for AGES for the other shoe to drop with joshua and how sydney's assholery towards him actually makes him feel and how it factors into yvonne's relationship with sydney - i love getting to see sydney in a different light via the rare instance of a character who is closer with jedidiah than him through yvonne, all three members of this argument royally pissed me off individually at least once and it felt like i was listening to my neighbors fight and i say this as a compliment.
the laugh track is so damn good and elevates it so much too. joshua is really interesting. i honestly wasn't sure how i felt about his worldview and i'm still not sure i do, he's an interesting critter though and actually getting a look into his psyche after him being mostly-comic-relief for so long feels very well-earned. such an emotional rollercoaster of an episode: i think yvonne is the character i agree with most in the argument but the whole thing is just so entangled with personal biases and all that it feels a little grimy to entirely agree with any of them. which is a great feeling for a piece of fiction to inspire and something this show is really good at. it really feels like listening to a friend group implode lmao.
i did find the "cis privilege" aspect of it to be a bit heavyhanded in a way that didn't land for me as much spoken directly as it did as subtext, but camp is very heavyhanded in general - the social commentary in this podcast has admittedly never really done much for me but i do definitely admire the balls on this show for putting a lot of these things as plainly as it does.
also i LOVE yvonne and jedidiah's friendship oh my god it's so good. agonizing. in general this trio has some of the most interesting stuff going on to me and i've always been curious how much yvonne and joshua know about things like sydney's death, as people close to both him and jeddie at the time, and jedidiah's tendency to not really acknowledge that sydney exists to other people as much as he does him.
ALSO x2: not related to this episode specifically just an overall thought, in the earliest parts of the season i was wary of jedidiah's new va but now i think it's really really settled in well. i think both vas bring different but still very appreciated vibes to the character- s1 jedidiah being more shy/meek/pathetic and s2 jedidiah being more depressed/distant/gruff, both are very important sides of him and his dialogue in s2 fits the new voice perrrfectlyyyy. love it. love him. i love when 'endearing' flaws are a double-edged sword and i think the progression of jedidiah's voice to be more low and cold and hollow, though obviously unintentional, fits that well lol. my problematic fav
