Skills share: day 3
Part A; Exploring the arts
For this part of the workshop, we started by brainstorming possible ideas that we could then further develop and base our short film on. To do this , everyone in our group took it in turns to talk about things in their life that we could use as the main focus in our movie. For example hobbies or past experiences in life.
From all the ideas people contributed to the group, we decided as a group to create a film about Elle and her karate hobby ; focusing on why she started karate and how she was treated being the only girl in her karate club and whether her starting karate has changed her in any way.
The things i enjoyed most this day was learning more about people in my group because some stuff that came up about their lives and hobbies , i found interesting and i wasn’t aware of even though i knew most of them.
I think this workshop has helped me improve my confidence skills because i was able to talk about my past when i moved countries and other things. Also i was able to improve my time management skills because as a group we had a limited amount of time to get through the stages of the day so we had to be aware of time. In addition, i feel that i improved my planning skills withing the group because i was able to contribute ideas that developed the given idea further.
Being an audience
On day two of the 1000 Londoners project we visited a local historical landmark. We had the privilege to tour Syon house and learn about its connections to figures such as Queen Victoria and Lady Jane Grey who both stayed there during significant periods in their lives. The house contained artworks dating back at least 300 years, as an art student this is what interested me the most. I like to see how art styles have changed in relation to portraits over the years. Syon house has a personal connection to my ancestors as they have lived on the estate and surrounding area since at least 1780, working as market traders and barge carters. I enjoyed learning about the history of the house and the family who were mostly likely employers of my ancestors, it was eye-opening to see the contrast between the very affluent and the very poor.
Day 2 1000 Londoners project: Syon House and Gardens
Exploring the arts
The first day of the 1000 londoners project was the planning stage, we got together as a collective to discuss areas of interest and pick two different individuals with unique lifestyles to focus on. Looking primarily at music and the emotional connection we have to different genres. The area of planning I found most enjoyable was the discussion stage. It was interesting to see what was most important to people, an opportunity i wouldn't have found elsewhere. Chocolate films has helped improve my teamwork skills even though I have had to work in a group before, I have never had to solve problems as a group for a creative task. This project has therefore already benefited me in ways I didn't expect it would. In my time as an art student I have never had to use a DLSR camera before, a challenge I find confusing. The instructional demonstration was very useful and now i understand basic functions of the camera, a skill I believe will benefit me later on in life as well as in this project. Already this project has helped me develop as a person and has been a very enriching experience.

Things changed even more drastically when she discovered that she was able to transform her wheelchair into a bike!
