This rich Chocolate and Vanilla Malted Milkshake Cake will let you savor the flavors of a traditional malted milkshake. Malted milk powder is mixed into layers of rich chocolate cake, which are then liberally frosted with smooth Italian buttercream. It's the ideal dessert for anyone who enjoys chocolate!
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar. 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 1 1/2 tsp baking powder. 1 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1 tsp salt. 2 large eggs. 1 cup whole milk. 1/2 cup vegetable oil. 2 tsp vanilla extract. 1 cup malted milk powder. 1 cup boiling water. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1/2 cup vegetable shortening. 4 cups powdered sugar. 1/4 cup whole milk. 1 tsp vanilla extract. Pinch of salt.
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth and well combined. Stir in the malted milk powder until fully incorporated. Carefully pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin; that's okay. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. While the cakes cool, prepare the Italian buttercream. In a mixing bowl, beat together softened butter and vegetable shortening until creamy and smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt, and continue to beat until the frosting is light and fluffy. Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a layer of Italian buttercream between each layer and then frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting. Decorate the cake as desired, with chocolate shavings, malted milk powder, or chocolate syrup. Refrigerate the cake for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the frosting to set. Slice, serve, and enjoy your Chocolate and Vanilla Malted Milkshake Cake!
