I chose Blaine for the scandal this chapter but I’ll probably end up settling on Tatum because he gets us in a way they don’t.
Blaine and MC’s situations with their parents are similar, but they’re not the same. The former’s parents seem to consider them as nothing more than an asset that keeps on being a burden. Meanwhile MC works their tail off for their mom, who loves them in return but keeps dropping the ball by their job getting in the way of spending time together.
For MC, they don’t seem to really want to break free as much as they do for their mom to put them first for once. But Blaine projects their feelings for their parents onto us and writes off our issues as “well why do you let them control you” (as said by @questionablespecies). This is understandable of them, but they’re still not getting our point.
However, Tatum does, as illustrated best by how he encourages us at the beginning of the chapter to relax and enjoy spending time with our mom. He knows that’s what we as the MC actually truly desire. And it’s that understanding of our character which is most likely going to drive me to ultimately choose Tatum over Blaine.
