Hello, hello! Lily here to say I’ve decided to host the August challenge again (mostly because I love seeing your creations and it’s like a month long party).
I’ve decided to host an AU challenge this month. But have no fear, if that’s not your cup of tea that’s okay, feel free to use one of the other prompts provided to create anything you’d like.
Everyone is welcome to participate (and I mean that absolutely), I simply ask that y’all read the rules and be kind to everyone. I like to believe we are all here to have fun and just be ridiculous with others that share our fandom space. So have fun, be kind, and happy creating!!
For day one (Coffee Shop AU | Ramen | “Look! I’m terrible at keeping secrets.”) of the @choicesaugustchallenge.
Warnings & A/N: Just an evening warm up and since I’ve written other coffee shop AUs for Tyril, why not one more haha. If ya don’t know by now, Daenarya belongs to the beautiful @storyofmychoices.
The day began like any other. The quiet hum of the machines as the first rays of morning light dusted the horizon and the baristas prepared for the early morning rush. The 06:00 flick of the open sign and the first three customers immediately bursting through the doors from their perches outside as they had impatiently waited that moment. The ebb and flow of the morning as customers filtered in and out on their way to work.
Maiele made his usual and found his normal spot at the window to sip on his coffee while watching the foot traffic outside the large cafe windows. And to wait.
Three weeks ago a rather striking man had hurried by this very window with a cup of coffee in hand and their eyes had met through the shop’s windows.
Time itself had seemed to slow as their eyes met and the man’s hurried steps faltered ever so slightly at Maiele’s smile. Or so Maiele told himself when he recalled the encounter later on that day to a friend.
The next day, to Maiele’s surprise the man had come into the very coffee shop Maiele always came to in the mornings and he laughed and called it fate, to the same friend, when it happened the rest of the week.
For the last several weeks he had noticed that customer come in each day, scan the room, find him and quickly look away. And at 07:40 exactly, he walked through the door as he always did.
Maiele smiled at him, as he always did when their eyes met across the room, and laughed quietly to himself when the man quickly looked away.
As the man approached the counter, he joined the line behind him, and couldn’t help but chuckle as the man glanced over his shoulder and then threw his attention back to the counter, visibly tension as he did.
“Next,” one of the newer barista called out.
“I’ll take a 16 ounce iced-“ Tyril began.
“Caramel macchiato with a 3/4 pump of caramel, a 3/4 pump vanilla, stirred once to the right and three times to the left with no whip,” Maiele finished. “And Ill take my usual, Mal.”
Mal nodded, mumbling something under his breath about the ridiculous order and stupid stir count, as he went to prepare their drinks and the next barista stepped up to the counter.
“I’m Maiele,” he said and offered his hand which went ignored as Tyril focused on the grumbling barista. Maiele glanced that direction and laughed. “He’s all teasing and no bite. He may complain about your order but he will do it right. Your drink’s in good hands,” he smirked and offered his hand again.
“Oh, yes, sorry. Tyril,” he said.
“I’ve seen you come in the last few weeks. Thought it was about time we met. You know, since you like this coffee better than your last place.”
“Of course. It is nice to meet you,” he said stiffly. “I have found this shop more preferable.”
“It does have the best coffee in the city.”
“That is debatable,” Tyril smiled rather shyly.
Maiele choked on his laugh and asked, “Then why do you come here?”
“Because of you, you idiot,” another barista beamed from behind the counter.
A few regulars and the other baristas laughing alongside Maiele.
“Thanks, Daenarya,” Maiele laughed and turned back to Tyril who had now flushed a bright purple. “I’d ask if that’s true but I see it is.”
“Quite. And yes. It also seems the entire shop knows now,” Tyril scowled.
“16 ounce caramel macchiato, shaken not stirred,” Mal called out Tyril’s drink.
“I asked for it-“
“He’s joking,” Maiele smiled and grabbed both drinks, handing Tyril’s to him and the two sat staring at each other.
“I must go to work,” Tyril finally said.
“Tomorrow is Saturday, why don’t you join me for coffee when you are up and going for the day?”
“I would be amenable to that. What time?”
“Anytime. I’m always here. This is my shop after all,” he smirked as Tyril choked on his first sip of coffee.
He sputtered a bit longer before saying, “I am sorry about my earlier comment. I did not mean to imply-“
“Tell you what, you join me tomorrow and tell me how we can improve the shop over dinner instead of coffee and we can call it good.”
“Okay.”
“Great!” Maiele grinned. “Meet me here at six and we can walk to the place I have in mind. Best food in the city.”
“I will see you then,” Tyril smiled and left with one last glance back at Maiele.
“Best food in the city, huh?” Daenarya stepped up beside Maiele with a grin.
“You saying you don’t agree with my assessment?” Maiele put on a faux pout and looked deeply wounded by her words. “I’m hurt.”
“You just wanted to get him back to your place,” she teased.
“And what better way than to start there,” Maiele smiled back at her.
