A Bruce Wayne thing for Promptathon?
I've been playing with this for a while in my head. Because it interests me. And also I'm weird.
-1921-
"Tony, I'm telling you, something is wrong here, it's just... not right."
"Jeannie," Tony laughed, "It's fine. There's work here. A lot of work. There's a new chemical plant opening. There's-"
"The money's not worth it, Tony! We could go back to Newark. We could just-"
Tony turned and looked at Jeannie, at her blonde hair and fine boned features, his heart dropping around his feet, "You mean where Colin that fat mick is?"
"I never wanted to be with Colin!"
"Yeah," Tony said pulling a gun from behind his back and leveling it at her, "You wanna go back huh? Wish you woulda married him?"
"No Tony, I swear. We'll just- It's fine-" But her protests and her pleading were cut off by a gunshot.
A single shot to the forehead.
No one saw. No one heard. And so there was no one to note that Tony's eyes were too big. Too bright in the dark out of the puddle of the streetlight. There was only the Night.
Only Gotham. And Jeannie's blood ran between the boards or the footbridge, into the water. The city claimed her. But it wouldn't claim Tony. Not yet.
Jim Gordon stood on the roof and waited. Looking out at the City below. There was a never ending churn. It wanted. And the wants made the hair rise on the back of his neck.
The heat and the drought had tempers flaring. Crime was rising. Organized and not. But as he looked up at the Man striding across the roof, he had hope.
Batman could do what he couldn't. Cut through red tape. Get to the heart of something. Quickly.
"Batman," he said holding out a hand, "thank you for coming."
"Hn." He took Gordon's hand and Gordon pretended that handshake wasn't familiar.
"There's someone moving in on Penguin," Gordon said, "And he's leaving Bodies all over the City-"
"That's a problem."
"You're telling me. We're running out of room in the morgue."
"What've you got?" Batman asked, eyes narrowing.
"Not much," Gordon admitted handing him a file. "He's clumsy but it's like he's just one step ahead. And it doesn't help that everytime he goes head to head with Penguin's guys- Cobblepott gets a clean up crew out."
"Hn."
"You can say that again."
