Synopsis: There was a prince, his princess and his loyal paw. Loyalty is such a wide term, especially if come to love. After all, you can't be loyal to the one and same person your whole life. It's not about surviving, it's about living. | More or less canonical travel through events from Tokyo Revengers from the quite different side. A lot of crack, angst, domestic fluff from Haitanis Household. Based on an OC as the main character.
"What the fuck is Valhalla doing here?" Ran Haitani barked, looking out of the private VIP room through a one-way mirror. He took a sip of his drink, observing a bunch of guys in their twenties, laughing, drinking and apparently having a night of their life.
"Let's fuck around and find out." A voice came from the other end of the room.
The oldest Haitani raised his perfectly trimmed brows and turned around, meeting a view of a black haired girl, hovering over the small table and sniffing a line of white powder. "You should quit this shit."
She sat straight up, wiping her nose with the palm of her hand. "And you should mind your own business, dear brother" After a few minutes of getting accustomed to the very well known uncomfortable feeling of powder in her airways, Sora got up on her feet and headed to the door. "Let me see them."
Without waiting for permission, Sora left the room. Immediately the music became much louder, blasting in her ears and making her whole head vibrating. It would be disturbing if not the amount of drugs and alcohol in her veins.
Sora spotted the said guys and waited for the occasion, pacing there and back among the crowd. It was around 1am and the atmosphere was quite hot, since everyone was waiting for Rindou Haitani to take the DJ's console over. He was quite a star in Roppongi, that was what most likely attracted people to this exact club. Haitanis' parties were unforgettable. Still that was said by a people that never experienced Haitanis' private party in their fancy house.
Anyway, soon later an occasion appeared. One of Walhalla's guys stood up and went through the crowd, possibly to get more drinks.
Sora made her way through dancing bodies, straight in the way of the Valhalla’s delinquent. Purposely bumping on him, she pretended to stumble back and threw herself lightly against the wall.
„Fuck, I’m sorry” Boy with blonde, a bit longer on the front hair immediately got to her and grabbed her hand. His eyes were wide open and that was the only visible emotion since the majority of his face was covered by a black mask.
„It’s okay, my bad'' She muttered, pretending she hit the back of her head against the wall. Massaging her skull, she held her head up, looking straight into his blue eyes.
„No, for real, are you hurt? Should I take you home?” He sounded really worried. Noticing he’s still holding a hand of a girl he’s never seen before, he let go and scratched the back of his head in an awkward manner.
„For real, I’m fine. I’m looking for my brothers anyway” She shrugged his offer off, straightening her body up. „Maybe you’ve seen two lanky guys, one with blonde-black hair and the other with blonde-blue?” Sora didn’t want him to know who she is so describing Ran’s signature braids would be shot in the knee.
Masked guy wondered for a few seconds and shook his head. "Nope. Come with me, I'm here with friends and our table is in a place with a good view. Bet you'll spot your brothers sooner or later" He proposed, taking a step back to keep a respectful distance.
"Nah, I know this one. You'll take me first to your table, then home, then kill me and rape me. I'm not that stupid, sir." Sora said, raising her eyebrows and crossed her hands on the chest. She looked at him challengingly.
"I would never ever touch a woman without consent but if you ask me, I prefer to have sex before killing my partners." Unnamed boy shrugged his arms dramatically and Sora genuinely bursted out in laughter.
"You're a funny one, got me. Take a lead" Haitani sighed capitulary and motioned her hand to the tables.
"In an exchange for my protection and observation spot, help me carry drinks, okay?" He asked and walked off in the opposite direction. Sora quickly agreed and followed him.
As soon as they reached the bar area, Sora took the stranger's hand and pulled him to one of the cashiers. "There's not many people" She explained, but the true reason was quite different – she didn't recognize this particular cashier so there wasn't a risk of them calling her "miss Haitani". Since the club belonged to Ran and Rindou, she was almost every Saturday here and knew all the staff. Especially barmans.
"What's for you?" He asked when it came to ordering drinks. Sora quickly refused, explaining she's had enough already. They took five glasses of various alcohols and drinks and headed to the table that the masked guy pointed to as his.
"So, those on the left are my brothers, Chonbo and Chome" he pointed with his chin on the two guys, when they reached the said table. The one called Chonbo turned out to be a bald man with a tattoo on his face. The other, Chome, had a characteristic hairstyle, containing dark and blonde swirls. "and that's Kazutora" Sora looked at the guy she recognized as soon as she heard his name. "My name is Choji, by the way." The one that accompanied her for the past several minutes finally revealed his name. After Sora presented herself, Choji looked around like he was looking for somebody. "Where's Hanma?"
Immediately from behind them came a voice. They both turned around to meet a significantly taller guy. First thing that Sora noticed was his hands. Hands with two kanji tattoos on the tops. The second she looked up and met his eyes, she knew her little spying mission was done for good. "It's Sora, I met her…" Choji started but was immediately cut off by Hanma.
"Sora Haitani, isn't it? We met once. " He said and a side smirk grew on his face.
Sora sighed and left her arms down in a gesture of surrender. "Nice to finally meet you, Reaper. I don't think I remember us meeting before." Behind her Choji sat down next to Kazutora and along with the others observed the situation in silence.
"I'm not surprised, I was just a watcher of the famous Roppongi Hai-Manic War. It was impressive how you slashed the girlfriend of Mad Maniacs leader with a machete." Hanma explained still in a playfully tone of voice that he was barely dropping.
"You must've seen somebody else. Officially, I wasn't there. Matter of fact, she shouldn't have tried to interrupt the fight." She responded with as angelic smile as she could pull. "Anyway, quite a celebrity table you have here, don't you?" Sora swiftly changed the topic. "The Reaper and the guy that took Black Dragon's founding leader down, nice" She nodded towards Kazutora. Almost invisible shadow ran through Hanemiya's face.
"Said you? Bet the whole S-62 is coming over for dinner every Sunday. Take a sit, Haitani." Hanma offered and passed the girl, taking a place next to Choji's two brothers.
"Every Wednesday, actually. I'm gonna go. Just checking what Valhalla is doing here when you've got nice clubs in Kabukichou."
"We mean no harm. Just celebrating Hanma's upcoming birthday" Choji rushed with explanation, wishing for nothing different than a fun night. Causing a fight in the heart of Roppongi wasn't on his to-do list.
"Happy Birthday then. Wish you a very bloody Halloween." Sora grinned and turned around. "Have fun, gentlemen" And before anybody got a chance to say anything, she got lost in a crowd.
"Really? Out of all the fucking girls in this club, you had to bring here Sora Haitani?" Chonbo scoffed, looking at Choji. He sighed and gave up on trying to find Sora among other people. "Shut up, you didn't recognize her as well." Masked boy came back at him and took a sip of his drink. "I'm into my sixth drink, I wouldn't recognize our mom, man. Still, you're looking for her like you don't…"
"Let him live, he's just a delinquent baby, he hasn't heard of Haitanis yet."
"Oh God, what worst would've happened, Annabelle would come after me with her baton?" Choji scoffed and shook his head. He truly hated his brothers treating him this way.
"That's not about Ran or Rindou. Sure, they're psychos, but Sora's one of five Yakuza's royal princesses." Hanma explained, scanning the crowd with his golden eyes. When he looked back at his friends, there were three pairs of eyes looking at him questionably. "Daughters of the most prominent Yakuza's families. Old Haitani controls the whole Kantou."
Few agreeing mutters answered him. "Imagine marrying into the family like that" said Chome, sighing dreamily.
"Hold on, cowboy" Hanma let out a small giggle. "So far I know, that's not like she's ever gonna have a word to say in Yakuza. That's about hierarchy and she has three older brothers, so I don't know what would've to happen for her to take the lead. Yet, Haitanis are obsessed over their heritage so I bet my bike she's gonna make some poor guy drop his family name and take Haitani" Hanma finished his elaboration with a shake of his head.
"I'd give up on my family name to be Haitani, no cap" Chrome stated with death serious expression.
As per command both Choji and Chonbo turned their heads in his direction with pure outrage on their faces. "Traitor."
Soon after the little fight ended, Sora had already reached the VIP room.
"They're just hanging out, nothing more" She explained to her brothers and new faces in the room. Suddenly, she felt her head dizzy and clumsy dropped herself on the sofa. She put her elbows on the small table in front of them and rested her head on her hands.
"Too much? I told you." Ran sighed and looked through the window one more time. " They gonna clash with Toman soon, huh?" He asked, looking in the direction of new arrived men.
Haruchiyo Sanzu took his mask off and pushed it into the pocket of his black pants. Then he nodded and hummed, confirming.
"Hopefully they'll win, Mikey has become greedy" Ran said, sitting on the sofa and taking a sip from his glass. "Sorry, Mucho" He muttered towards the man sitting next to Sanzu. Mucho said something that sounded like "okay" and the silence laid down between people in the room.
"You okay, Sora?" Yasuhiro Mutou asked, looking at his friend's sister who hasn't spoken a word since she clapped on a seat.
"Gonna go home, I guess." She managed to articulate, still feeling her head spinning around.
"I'll call Max up" The oldest Haitani offered, pulling his phone out of the pocket and made a quick call. "He'll be here soon". Max was Haitanis driver and Ran trusted him almost as much as he trusted his friends.
The next thing Sora remembered was the fact that she stood outside of the club, in front of the backdoor, reserved for VIPs. By her side, Yasuhiro Mutou, infamous Ghost of S-62. And she was hanging in his arms. "Sora please, get yourself together, someone's gonna see us" Mutou moaned out miserably, looking on the right and left.
"Jesus fucking Christ, would it be that bad? Are you ashamed of me?" Sora muttered into his chest, inhaling the scent of his most likely expensive perfume."
Mucho took a deep breath. He hated dealing with his drunk girlfriend. At least when he himself was sober. "We had this talk a million times. We can't out ourselves."
Sora pulled off of him and dramatically turned her back on him. "Fine, I'm Haitani and I don't beg anyone. Go marry my brothers if you care about their opinion more than about me" She spat and looked around, waiting for the driver.
"This is not… Nevermind. Just go to bed as soon as you're home, okay?" Mucho's tone softened a bit.
"I'll do whatever I wish" Sora responded, slurring a bit. It wasn't her night for sure. Thank God, black Mercedes finally showed up and parked in front of her. Max got out to open the passenger door.
"You know what? It's not dating if only we know about this. Go back inside and find a girl without brothers. Or with brothers you're not gonna be scared of" That was all he heard before Max closed the door and the car soon drove away.
"I'm not…" Yasuhiro started but it was already too late. "Spoiled brat" he muttered to himself before, in fact, going back to the club.
"Home, miss Haitani?" Max asked from the driver's seat.
"Well, if you ask me, another club, but I don't want Ran to be on your back for this." Sora giggled and rested her back against soft seats.
The rest of the drive she didn't even remember the next day. All that was left in her head was Max offering his help with going to bed, but as Sora refused, he had nothing more to say. She must've somehow gotten there by herself, since early morning's lights welcomed her in her own room.
11:27AM. That was what Sora’s phone was saying as soon as she opened her eyes. Along with a couple text messages from Mucho and one missed call. „Thanks God for DND” She thought to herself, throwing the phone back in the sheets. Autumn’s sun was already breaking in between waves of window’s curtains, making Sora’s headache even more painful. When she finally decided to get up, she grabbed one of Rin’s oversized shirts and after quick tooth brushing, she ran down the stairs straight to the kitchen. She already heard Ran and Rin bickering over something, which was unusual for Ran to be up that early after a night of clubbing. After all, he was known as a sleeping beauty.
But there was another voice that Sora didn’t recognize at first. She pushed her head behind the door frame, scanning the spacious kitchen and finding the source of her confusion – Izana Kurokawa himself.
„No way!” She yelled out, fully entering the room and in a few steps reaching the guest. „It’s been centuries, Izana.” A quick hugs were exchanged before she took a seat on a hooker chair next to Izana.
„Morning Haitani to you too” A mutter reached her ears from the other side of the kitchen. Turn of the head revealed Yasuhiro pressing his back against the wall, half sitting on the windowsill.
„Oh God, I’m used to you here like to our furnitures, I haven’t seen Izana in ages. Where have you been, loca?” She asked, stealing Ran’s cup of coffee and taking a few solid sips.
„Not the Twilight quotes” Rindou whined pouty, leaning flat with the upper side of his body on the counter. „You missed my performance, Sniffany.”
„Don’t come at me with Sniffany” Sora scoffed and stood up, about to go around and find some painkillers.
"And Sniffany didn't miss anything, you're gonna blast this same shit over and over every night from today to next Saturday. Trust me, Izana in Yokohama isn't missing it" Ran said smoothly, raising one of his eyebrows.
"You're living now in Yokohama?" Sora turned around after she swallowed two pills and came back to her seat next to Kurokawa. After receiving a nod in answer, she asked another question: "Well, finally visiting old friends. Why not earlier?"
"Actually, I'm gathering S-62 again."
Sora eyed him carefully, taking a sip from her own glass of water to get herself some time to think about the answer. Izana has always given her weird vibes so she'd rather watch her mouth. "Why?" She asked after a solid several seconds of silence.
Izana giggled shortly in response and stared at her with his big eyes. "The balance of power in Tokyo is about to change dramatically."
"If you mean Valhalla and Toman…"
"No, that's the kids' fights. I'm talking about real criminal syndicate I'm about to establish. But not gonna lie, Valhalla might be useful. I'll let them kill each other." Izana explained with his characteristic, a bit weird smile plastered on his face. "You, dear Sora, can help the case as well!" He said out of the blue, putting both of his hands on Sora's arms. Following her confused look, he continued: "Ran just told me about your failed spying mission from last night. Go and contact this boy you met, a spy in Valhalla would be very useful. Just as our Toman's spy" Izana looked at Mucho, who was now looking out of the window, apparently trying to avoid the conversation.
"No way Izana, I can't associate myself with any of this shit. If I got arrested, I'd be done for life" Sora shook her head and sighed. "Plus, I'm getting my ass beaten on the Uni, final exam soon."
"Sora's studying law. She's gonna support our father's business after she gets her license." Rindou joined the conversation. Usually, they both were overprotective and wouldn't really just let anyone drag their little treasure into gang shit like that, but Izana was different. They trusted Izana and even if they weren't gonna admit it, he had some kind of power over every member of the Brutal Generation.
"Indeed, as you see, can't disappoint old Renny."
"Neat, we will need attorneys in Tenjiku too. I'm not asking you to take part in the fight, just to sniff around. Come on, be a good girl for uncle Izana." He said in his typical sweet voice and moved his hands to the girl's cheeks, cupping her face.
"I will not call you uncle…" She mumbled.
"You'd rather call me daddy Izana?" Kurokawa asked playfully, raising his eyebrows.
"Izana." Ran growled in a warning tone. Izana immediately took his hands off and held them up in a defensive gesture.
"Just joking, chill out. You know very well she's our S-62's little sister. It's about code; it's about honor!" Izana said and laughed out loud.
"Men code. You're not fucking with your homeboy's sister. Never" Ran nodded with closed eyes, apparently trying to look like an old sage.
Sora shot Mucho a side eye look, but he was as nodding as the others.
"Exactly. I'd beat the ass of anybody that tried to touch my sister if I had one." Izana added, answered by agreeing nods from the brothers. "Anyway, come on Sora, I'll give you something cool."
"I can afford everything cool sweetie, no way."
"I'll give you you own division in Tenjiku."
"Wait, what? My own division? You'd make me a captain?"
"Hold on, kid. Wasn't that you saying you're not gonna get involved in gangs?" Ran interrupted.
"Yes, but this is different! I wouldn't settle for being an average soldier under some dude."
"But you know you have to join a gang first to get a promotion for captain?" Mucho suddenly spoke up. He had always been the quiet one, so nobody really even noticed he's not very much into the following conversation.
"Tried once, Osanai made fun of me. Said gangs are not for women and stuff. When he found out it was me that asked, came here to apologize and invite me personally." Sora told a short story, playing with the glass between her hands.
"What did you say?" Asked Izana, suddenly interested.
"That if he doesn't get out of my face in three seconds, I'll let Richard bite him."
"Oh. See? That's what I think you'd make a great captain. Famous Haitanis charisma. Only if you do me a little favor."
Sora sighed deeply and looked up at him. "You're manipulating piece of trash, Kurokawa. I'm in". She'd swear she could hear Ran and Rin rolling their eyes.
"Fantastic!" Izana clapped his hands.
"Don't get too hyped up. I don't know anything about this guy but that his name is Choji.
"I think I follow Hanma on Instagram, let's see if he tags him anywhere" Rin muttered, grabbing his phone from the counter. He tapped the screen a couple times and murmured under his breath with interest. "There he is and I know him". Ran, Sora and Izana leaned over his phone to have a look, even Mutou approached the counter and now was hanging over Rin's left shoulder. "Remember cousin Makoto? We used to play with him all the time back then. This guy lived right next to him. Streets call him "The Rat"" Rin explained.
"This is him? Interesting." Ran straightened up and went back to his former place.
"Why "Rat"?" Yasuhiro asked, finally sitting on the third and last hooker chair.
"He never plays clean. Always using weapons 'n shit." Rin explained quickly.
"Maybe he's a lost Haitani?" Izana suggested, eloquently looking at each of Haitanis.
"Nope, we're naturally brunettes."
"Anyway, contact him, Sora. Or wait, no. Wait for him to contact you. I heard Reaper isn't as stupid as he looks, it would be pretty clear."
"If he won't text me, I'm gonna just pretend to accidentally meet him somewhere. Trust me, I'm good at turning destiny into my favor. Anyway, where is your tail, Mucho?"
"Your tail, strawberry blonde hair, doll eyes and big ass katana, any recall?"
Yasuhiro suddenly sighed. "I don't want him to know about Tenjiku yet. He seems to be dead loyal to Mikey."
Sora blinked a couple times. "Very friendly of you, scheming behind your vice captain's back." She stated with a coldness in her voice that made Mucho look up at her with a short snort.
"You don't know anything about it. Speaking of Sanzu, gotta go, we're cleaning my car today." Mucho excused himself and grabbed his keys from the shelf. "We'll be in touch, guys." He said and after quick "byes", left the room.
"I'll walk you to the gate, need to get Richard from outside too" Sora said, walking after him.
They walked in complete silence. When they reached Mucho's black car parked on the driveway, Sora stood on her toes and gave the man a quick peck on the lips. "Come on, kitchen is on the other side of the house." She complained, seeing his furrowed eyebrows. "When will I get a private audience with you?"
"Can't say, I've got a lot going on currently" He said dispassionately. "See ya, Sora" He placed a small kiss on her forehead and got in the car before she could've said anything.
He didn't wave; in fact he didn't look at her for a second as he backed out of the driveway. Sora looked after him before closing the gate. It was the coldest goodbye he had ever said to her.
Sora didn't hear from Mucho since he left Haitanis' household. He hadn't responded to her three texts, and didn't pick up the phone.
[Yasuhiro<3] 11:23AM: sorry, been busy, I'm good
There were moments when the world seemed to close in. When there was no oxygen in Sora's lungs and she thought she's gonna die. One would say this is how rejection and sudden cold attitude affects someone in love, but Sora knew better, that was the price she was eventually paying a price for going days with two, three hours of sleep, best grades on the uni, barely even eating, yet being able to meet with friends here and there, party every Saturday. But apparently, giving up wasn't an option – there was still an exam to pass and life to live. So when her head was starting to spin and she felt her legs giving up, she'd just sit down for a minute and then keep going. Drowning herself in countless books, notes, examples of legal cases and so had one advantage more – wasn't leaving any space for intrusive thoughts she had been having.
Sora didn't quite understand why she was getting unbearably sad when her phone would light up and she was grabbing it only to find out it wasn't Mucho. Why overthinking the reasons for the unexpected change of behavior gave her a physical, stabbing ache in chest. Why would she naive hoping he was about to call. It couldn't be because of her stupid feelings towards a stupid man, with a stupid smile that would always light up her days, with a stupidly nice smell of cologne and stupid big, safe chest. Couldn't be. It was a natural body reaction for stress, tiredness and so on.
Sora found herself staying in her room more than she used to. She would shortly tell Ran or Rin off that she's studying, which wasn't even a lie. "Only till exam" she thought to herself while hovering over a white line in order to stay up the whole night. Last time when she slept, she had a terrible nightmare about stupid Mucho with a new treasure hanging on his arm. Sora wasn't going to let it happen again.
23/10/2010, Saturday
Ran noted in his head that Sora rejecting Saturday's part was such a weird situation. But there was nothing odd in stress eating her up when there was only a week left until her exam? He did actually notice that she was looking worse lately. But she would ask for a help, if something was going on, right?
Even if she hoped for a text from Mucho, the phone lightening up wasn't a complete waste of time. Just as Izana predicted, last week's Sunday's evening brought Sora a new friend that now she was seeing everyday – Choji actually pulled out his hidden stalker and got her number. Turned out that he was a nice, fun guy and even if the whole agenda was setted up, she found honest pleasure in spending time with him. They shared the same sense of humor, taste in Chinese food and horror movies. Sora was still shocked how close you can become with somebody over a few days.
"Fuck, I need to go, damned Hanma" Choji muttered, looking at the text he had just gotten. "I'm so sorry Sora, I'll drive you home, okay?" He asked, looking over at his newest friend who was currently stuffing her cheeks with fried noodles.
"Huh?" She mumbled, trying to swallow. "Valhalla things?"
"Yup, Hanma's big ass leader now" He rolled his eyes.
"Take me with you, please" She whined, hanging on his arm. "Please, please, please!"
"For what? There's nothing interesting and that old arcade stinks of mold" He shook his head.
"I want to join, I didn't know how to ask but see, it's just a perfect occasion!"
"Why do you want to join?"
Sora sighed and shoved herself away from him. That was a time for an Oscar worthy performance. "There's someone in Toman I have unfinished business with". Choji kinda expected it. He wasn't going to ask specifically, but Sora mentioned she used to date a guy from Manji Gang so it was understable she was going to hold a grudge against Mikey's squad.
"I'll take him down for you, but you don't have to…"
"You don't understand Choji" She groaned and laid back on her back. They were in the park, sitting on the blanket and catching the last rays of sun. "I won't be satisfied until I don't get him myself, smash his head against the concrete until his brain is leak…"
"I got it, I got it. God, you're disgusting" He exhaled dramatically. "I'll take you if you really want. But don't cry later"
"Thanks, Rat" She genuinely smiled brightly and hopped up on her feet. "Let's go!"
It took them a while to arrive in Valhalla's hideout because of the traffic and the meeting had already started. Choji tried his best to not get the attention, but other members decided to greet their captain and eye the newcomer, dressed in an oversized hoodie, the hood on their head and a mask on their face. Choji didn't want to make a show with a girl walking by his side to he asked Sora to cover herself and hide her gender as long as possible.
But when Hanma saw his captain finally arrive, he demanded his presence next to him. Hanma had always been all into shows. And when they stepped out before the whole crowd, Sora just took her hood off along with the mask and smiled.
"Is it you again, Haitani? No fucking way, you homemade Mata Hari. What this time?"
