Meg’s attention turned away from the cell phone she’d grinded beneath her feet, looking up to meet the spooked face of Edward. For a moment, she simply stared him down as he raised his hands up as if she would shoot him. He was talking to her, promising no cops and questioning why she was in his brother’s house.
Oh... His brother’s house.
So the place wasn’t abandoned. That’s what this was all about.
He was taller than her yet it seemed her small display of strength had scared him. Trying her best to ignore the pain throbbing through her body due to the bullets still lodged within her, Meg knew she couldn’t afford to seem weak right now. Even a moment of weakness could give him the upper hand, it could bring her back to that damn cell in that military hellhole. She wouldn’t go back, no way in fucking hell.
“Thought this place was abandoned,” the ginger replied, voice scratchy from disuse. She’d had no reason to speak in the past, refusing to utter a word to those scientists. The athlete shifted slightly only to bite back a groan as a sharp pain shot up her back. Those damn bullets, she’d need to get rid of them. After a moment, she added, “You can put your arms down. I’m not some wild animal, y’know.”
Okay, so that was a bit of a lie. She wasn’t a wild animal but she was a rogue military experiment. Not like some random man needed to know that though. Soon enough, she’d be out of here anyway, “As long as you don’t do anything funny, you’ll be fine. Just passing through, sorry ‘bout breaking in.”
Meg turned her back to Edward, unsure of just how bad her back must look. The ginger was aware that her shirt was ruined but the amount of blood she’d lost... That was something she couldn’t determine. Despite her best efforts, the woman was unsteady on her feet. She stumbled once or twice, doing her best to make her way towards the kitchen, “Lemme just get a drink of water and I’ll get outta here.”
She felt like shit, absolute shit. If she tried to leave now, the experiment honestly wasn’t sure just how far she’d make it. Meg needed more time to recover but she couldn’t stay here. Going to a hospital was out of the question, though she probably wouldn’t make it there anyway. Plus, she had no idea of how to get around the area. The only resource she had at her disposal was...
Meg’s head whipped around to stare Edward down again. He still seemed pretty intimidated by her. Perhaps she could make him pull these damned bullets out of her before she left. If anything, she could just threaten him to do it, right? After a moment, she stated, “You. Help me.”
