Watching the bay and if they keep being fucking mean to Chris I'm going to have an aneurism
Hey, so, I'm a little perturbed after having watched the Disney+ Rescue Rangers movie. I've seen worse movies mind you, but there were...CERTAIN things about it that gave me a bit of grief. So I'm putting this up here for my own little peace of mind and hopefully for everyone else who needs it, too.
For those not in the know, this here is an online Rescue Rangers fan graphic novel called "Of Mice and Mayhem" by Chris Fischer of the former Electric Fish Music website.
Yeah, it's fanfic-y to all hell, but you know what? It actually has a lot more respect for the source material when you get down to it. Very Chip x Gadget, yeah. But they are infinitely a damn better pairing than...what we saw in the Disney+ movie.
Anyway, give it a read and maybe it will help soothe the soul. Lord knows it did for me back then and it still does now.
So I don't watch Amy Schumer's comedy stuff or anything, but I saw a YouTube ad for her HBO Max-exclusive documentary series Expecting Amy, which is about both her pregnancy and the creation of her Netflix special Growing. In the ad/clip, they talked about her husband Chris Fischer being diagnosed with Asperger's. I was intrigued (like seriously never watched a whole skippable YouTube ad but this one I did), so I hunted down the series. I just finisned watching it today.
The part about her husband having Asperger's is in episode 2, "Gestation," I think about halfway through. He goes and gets a test with some ASD expert, and finds out he has Asperger's, or autism spectrum disorder, which is what I guess they're officially calling it now. He's level one, so pretty mild.
As far as I could tell, they handle it pretty tastefully, not treating it like a disability but just saying his brain works differently, and commenting on some of his traits (in a clip of one of her comedy shows, Amy mentions how he can't lie, for example; his eye contact issues also come up). The only part I had some issue with was this point where they're having a sort of argument at home. This comes after we see how Amy has used this painting he did of her at one of those "paint your own pottery" shops as the basis of a joke at several of her shows. He seems kinda bothered by it (and I kinda was too) but is clearly trying to hide it. Amy keeps saying things to force him to communicate more clearly and be up front about if it bothers him that she talks about him and/or his autism onstage or not. And I just kept being like "Easy for YOU to say." Cause I related to Chris in that situation. Their other argument was at least a bit more justified (Chris kept looking at his phone for directions while driving, and Amy tells him to stop, and while he acknowledges he understands, he keeps doing it, to her frustration...I mean, yeah, you should keep your eyes on the road when driving).
After that it only comes up here and there (like in ep 3 Amy comments how Chris held eye contact with her during her whole C-section, despite having problems with eye contact).
All in all, I was happy it was addressed, and IMO pretty well.
